EastEnders’ Duncan Boyd actor set to return to BBC soap after 34 years away

David Gillespie is set to return to EastEnders after leaving Albert Square more than 30 years ago.

The actor, who first graced our screens in 1987, will reprise his iconic role as Duncan Boyd for a short stint on the BBC soap later this month.

Duncan was best known for his fling with Sharon, who sought support at the church where he worked due to her chaotic home life with her parents.

Sharon soon fell for Duncan and the pair later got engaged, but the wedding was called off after Duncan was offered a job in Wiltshire.

And nearly 34 years later, Sharon’s world is set to be rocked again as her former flame will unknowingly return to officiate her son Albie’s christening.

Sharon’s love life has been turbulent to say the least – with her heated on-and-off romance with Keanu.

Fans have previously been left divided about the relationship due to the age gap, so how will David’s comeback play out on the Square?

Speaking about his return, David said: “I have to say what a pleasure it was being back in EastEnders reviving my role as Duncan after over 30 years of leaving the show – a little strange at first but nice strange.

“The only people I knew were my old mates Letitia and Gillian but I was made to feel instantly at home by such a wonderful cast and great crew – lots of new friends. Fabulous!”

Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer commented: “It’s wonderful to welcome David back to the role of Duncan Boyd.

“Although we haven’t seen Duncan for over three decades, his character shares a romantic history with one of the show’s iconic matriarchs, Sharon. We’re delighted to have him back for a short while as he unknowingly stirs up drama between the happy couple.”
