Sally began: “I feel bad saying 30 years in the music industry but I must point out you did start very, very, very young.”

Louise agreed: “Yeah I was obviously 19 when we started, 19 or 20” as the broadcaster added: “But you spotted even before that weren’t you?”

It was at this point that the blonde bombshell shared the bizarre story of how she was scouted while dancing the night away with her friends.

She explained: “Yeah so I was 15 in a club that I was never meant to be in on a school night and Dennis Ingoldsby was in there.

“He went on to become our manager, and he was the head of A&R records at Polydor and he was there with Pete Tom before Pete Tom was The Pete Tom who we all know. So yeah I was just in the right place at the right time.”

Still baffled by the story, Jon pried further into how that meeting went, to which Louise insisted “it was never untoward in any way”.

The mum-of-two continued: “So he literally just came up to me and he said, ‘Is there any way you can sing?’ and I was very confident at 15 and I was like, ‘Well actually I go to stage school, I can sing’.

“He gave me his card and I went home and told my mum and dad and they were like, ‘Don’t be so ridiculous, throw that card in the bin. What was you doing in a club at 15 you’re supposed to be staying at a friend’s house.’

“And I actually didn’t throw the card away, I rang him on the way to school on the pay phone and he was genuinely the head of A&R records at Polydor.”

After hearing about her impressive vocal range, the talent agent asked to come and visit her home where she could perform for him.

Louise went on: “He said, ‘Can I talk to your parents?’ and then he came down to my house and I sang in the kitchen for him and it kind of went from there.”

Looking back on her unusual meeting, the doting mum confessed she would be “suspicious” now if either of her boys was discovered in a similar way.

She continued: “You’d be suspicious wouldn’t you and I think my parents were to be honest, but I have to say it was never untoward in any way.

“I think it sounds like there was an opportunity that there could have been but he was so by the book that he said, ‘Can I speak to your Mum and Dad’ when he found out that I was only 15 and then we went into the studio.”

The hitmaker’s Greatest Hits album is available to buy now and even includes some new hits as well as the classics.
