Love Island star stayed in hideaway for two days after producers refused to let him leave

Love Island star Michael Griffiths revealed he refused to leave the hideaway for two days after producers declined his request to leave the show.

The fitness trainer, 31, was thrust into the limelight when he appeared on series five of the hit ITV2 dating show back in 2019.

Four years later, Michael has joined forces with series four star Georgia Steel, with the pair teaming up with Subway on their social content series, Lunch Island.

Michael caused quite the stir following his stint on the show, especially following his three days in Casa Amor.

Upon returning to the villa, the star chose to recouple with Joanna Chimonides while his original partner Amber Gill, who was later crowned winner of the series with Greg O’Shea, remained loyal.

But after forming an instant connection with Joanna, 26, Michael knew he made the right decision and explained producers had no involvement in his choice to recouple.

“It was fully my decision,” he explained. “You know when you meet someone and it just clicks, it was a no brainer for me”.

But just over two weeks after her arrival, Joanna was brutally dumped from the villa after her fellow Islanders opted to save Michael and send her packing.

Despite claiming to have found what he was looking for, Michael decided to stay in the villa and was branded him a “f***ing snake” by Joanna just before her exit.

However, Michael revealed he did actually want to leave but it was producers who refused to let him.

The MTV presenter explained: “I wanted to leave but they didn’t let me. The funny thing is that I said, ‘I want to go home’ but because producers didn’t catch it on camera, I couldn’t go.”

Georgia, 25, added: “I feel like Michael’s story hadn’t finished and they knew that there was more to show of him, hence why they advised you to stay in there.

Michael continued: “That’s why after that event happened, I don’t think you see me for the next two episodes because I refused to get out of bed.

I was like, ‘Well I want to go home’ so I’m not doing anything and I’m not getting out of bed’. I spent like two days in the hideaway”.
