Emmerdale fans threaten to switch off as they fume after iconic character’s tragic death

Emmerdale viewers have been left gutted after Rishi Sharma was confirmed dead after a petrifying fall.

Things took an emotional turn on Friday (July 28) after Jai found his dad’s lifeless body at the bottom of the stairs in his home.

Although Jai had been faced with turmoil of late, after he discovered that Rishi is not his biological father, he couldn’t help but break down once he realised that Rishi had passed away.

But the emotional scenes led some viewers to be annoyed as they didn’t want or expect Rishi to be killed off.

Taking to Twitter, Emmerdale fans aired their grievances.

Emmerdale fans are annoyed that Rishi has been killed off

One social media user wrote: “The only character left that added that bit of humour just fell down the stairs and died. F******g hell #Emmerdale time to get in the bin. RIP Rishi.”

Another complained: “So sad Rishi has died. @Emmerdale you could’ve killed someone else instead… like Charles’ dad. I guess this means we’re going to meet Jai’s bio dad and half-sister soon.”

A third said: “They killed off Rishi just to create this fake fight between this new guy and Jai?!! THAT’S the BIG idea?!!! Building up for another ssw are we?! OMG! This is a worse plot than when they killed off Harriet.”

Fans shared their displeasure online

While a fourth viewer argued: “Can’t believe #Emmerdale just killed off Rishi, @bhaskerpatel was always a joy to watch and Rishi was a bit of lighthearted fun in the village when it was filled with doom and gloom. You will be missed immensely.”

Actor Bhasker Patel, who plays Rishi, recently spoke to presenter Christine Lampard about his character’s death while on ITV’s Lorraine.

Sitting alongside actor Chris Bisson, who plays Jai, Bhasker said: “When the producer rang me and said: ‘I need to talk to you and we’re killing you off because we want a big story and it’s going to be a big surprise.’

Rishi has left the soap after being a part of the show for 12 years

“Because my 12 years at ITV, they let me do a lot of other work, so I felt a part of ITV, a part of Rishi, but at the same time… I was working in London as well.”

“So when the producer said ‘we’re going to kill you off’, I was like: ‘Okay, that part of my life with this guy is over and I’m going to move on.”

Christine later shared the messages that fans had sent the actor which lead him to break down in tears.
