Goldilocks horror director promises ‘gory eye-pull and head crushing’ scenes

Horror movie producer Craig Rees has promised movie-goers “graphic” scenes in his upcoming horror reboot of the classic Goldilocks fairytale.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Star, he revealed some chilling info about the amount of guts and gore sprinkled throughout his new film Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge. Rees explained: “The first 45 minutes of the film is a psychological thriller, then the last half an hour is pretty graphic!”

“We’ve got eyes being pulled out, heads being crushed – do you know what? I don’t even like all that kind of violence, but [for] these horror fanatics I thought, ‘If it’s gonna be done, let’s go all out. Craig admitted that he “literally wrote the script in five days” and the film now has “an alternate ending”, which has made the storyline “a lot darker” than he had originally planned.

“There’s a scene where Baby Bear throws a grenade at the ‘goodies,’ as it were. I just thought: ‘What the hell! I wanted to do something completely out of the box. There is [a lot of gore], we’ve enhanced practical effects and special effects. With the head crush [scene] – without giving too much away – we did the actual scene with the actor there, his head was right next to the [car] tire.”

“The CGI guys then come in and do their magic – it was like a watermelon. We did a lot of practical effects, we had three special effects makeup guys who worked on the film. Craig couldn’t resist heavily hinting at the amount of gore and hopes Goldilocks will appeal to the wider horror fandom: “We’ve got some really graphic stuff going on in the film.”

“The first 45 minutes builds up and builds up – a lot of people have been comparing it to The Strangers and The Purge. There were moments in the script where I thought: ‘Do I need to go this violent?’ Then I thought: ‘No, I need to,” because I know what these crazy horror fans are like. No-one has done the eye-pulling-out for a long time in a film, so I thought: ‘You know what? This will be unusual!”

Craig was also sure to praise his cast and crew for their efforts behind-the-scenes: “Luckily the special effects makeup guys did such a great job on it […] we’ve done some practical effects in the film that didn’t work, that we had to redo.”

“Originally, one of the characters was going to get smashed by a spade and I actually thought we needed to amp it up a bit more.”
