Emmerdale stars rush to support Rishi Sharma actor as he announces devastating news

Bhasker Patel had some sad news to share with his followers.

The actor, best known for playing Rishi Sharma on Emmerdale, took to Instagram to announce that his mother has passed away. Sharing a number of snaps of his beloved mum on his account, the 68-year-old added the caption: “My wonderful Mother ‘Shantaben Dahyabhai Patel’.

He added: “1929 – 2024” followed by a a row of broken heart emojis. “Miss you so much!” Bhasker wrote at the end of the post.

A number of actors from the ITV soap rushed to support their former co-star as they shared their condolences in the comments. Natalie Ann Jamieson, who has played Amy Wyatt since 2019, said: “Sending lots of love!”

Charles Anderson star Kevin Mathurin penned: “Oh no, Bhasker. What a week! I am so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are going out to you and your family.”

Anthony Quinlan, who portrayed Ross Barton from 2013 until 2020, added: “Sending love and thoughts to you and family mate.” Tracy Metcalfe actress Amy Walsh wrote: “Awww I’m so sorry Bhasker.”

Karen Blick, best known for her role as Lydia Dingle, commented: “So sorry for your loss Bhasker, sending love x.” Bhasker played Rishi from 2011 until he was killed off last year.

The actor opened up about his departure following his sudden on-screen death. “I’ll miss working with the Emmerdale family, they are a great bunch to work with and I learnt a lot as well, it gives you a brilliant profile and when Rishi died, the response online made me cry!,” he told Metro.

Bhasker admitted he saw it as a compliment when he learned Rishi was being killed off. He told the publication: “Jane Hudson said, we need a big story and we’re going to kill Rishi off and I thought, that’s fine. They said, you’ve worked while you’ve been with us in Emmerdale and I thought that’s a big compliment, I’ve been a jobbing actor since 1980 and I love working.”
