BBC axed Trailblazers after Mel B and Emily Atack ‘clashed in front of crew’

BBC show Trailblazers was reportedly axed after stars Mel B and Emily Atack had a falling out on set.

The pair allegedly clashed during the first series in 2022, which saw them trekking across the Rocky Mountains with Ruby Wax. The group were following in the footsteps of Victorian female explorer Isabella Bird at the time.

According to an insider Scary Spice Mel, 43, and former Inbetweeners star Emily, 34, didn’t get along at all, which resulted in a “frosty” and “quite tense” atmosphere in the US – particularly after a disagreement halfway through filming.

The source revealed, according to the Mirror: “Once on set, their personalities definitely clashed and there was one row that was witnessed by several crew members. There was no way back from that at the time.”

The BBC won’t be renewing Trailblazers after an alleged falling out between Mel B and Emily Atack

Another insider added: “BBC bosses had hoped they could create a returning celebrity gang show in the style of Gordon Ramsay, Gino D’Acampo and Fred Sirieix on ITV but it just didn’t work out. Because Mel and Emily really did not get on, it was tough drumming up that natural chemistry. There were high hopes for the show but it won’t be coming back.”

The first “trip of a lifetime” for the celebrity trio involved a series of physical challenges in the Rockies, where brave Isabella trekked more than 800 miles in 1873.

Emily and Mel were joined by Ruby Wax on their trek

The ladies later appeared together on The One Show, where Mel B seemed to get frustrated when the other stars kept talking over her, prompting her to brand the chat “rotten”. Ruby said: “We were after the American dream and then it went rotten.” Mel quipped in response: “Just like this interview! Don’t forget to tune in guys on Monday.”

Mel then got up to leave mid-segment, only to be told to sit down by her co-stars. Emily and Mel had previously met on Celebrity Juice in 2020, where they wowed fans with an on-screen kiss.

Emily and Mel have reportedly since made up following their spat

The first source added of their relationship after Trailblazers: “The trip was not just a jolly for Mel, Emily and Ruby – some of the challenges were quite tough. It was a bit of a pressure cooker environment but Mel and Emily have seen each other since and things were fine between them.”
