Jennifer Lawrence ‘didn’t understand’ horror film she starred in – despite bonking director

Jennifer Lawrence has admitted to not understanding a horror film she starred in and promoted, even though she was bonking its director.

The Hunger Games star revealed that while many viewers of Mother! were left confused, they weren’t alone.

It was the 33-year-old’s lead role in Mother! that left fans scratching their heads, and received mixed reviews as a result. The 2017 flick saw the Hollywood icon play an unnamed mother whose home is taken over by a group of strangers.

There’s lots of quality news coming out of the US.

Despite its captivating-sounding concept, the horror movie was lost on some of its viewers who complained about how baffling it was.

And that confusion even extended to its leading actress, Lawrence, despite her being in a relationship with director Darren Aronofsky.

During an appearance on an episode of Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen asked Lawrence: “On a scale of one to totally confused, how much did you understand your film Mother?”

Amused by the question, Lawrence told the host: “I’m going to be honest. Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had the CliffNotes. So, five. Or four?”

A shocked Cohen replied: “Four?! Wow okay, that’s not high.”

Aronofsky and Lawrence hit it off on the film’s set but their relationship was short-lived and they split two months after its release.

Lawrence later confessed that the movie caused tension in their relationship.

Talking to Adam Sandler, Lawrence said: “Normally, I promote a movie, ask people to go see it, and then it’s just out of your hands.

“I normally just kind of let it go. Dating the director was different. We’d be on the [press] tour together, I’d come back to the hotel, and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is a movie.

“He comes back from the tour, and that’s all he wants to talk about and I get it. It’s his baby. He wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it.”

She added: “I was doing double duty trying to be a supportive partner, while also being like, ‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about Mother! for one second?’

“I finally was just like, ‘It’s not healthy. Neither of us are doing it because if I read it, I start getting defensive.’ Especially because it’s my man.

“It’s awesome, what we did — some people hate it and the people who hate it, really hate it.”
