Gypsy Rose Blanchard has opened up about her struggles with exploring her sexuality after experimenting while in prison.
The subject of the documentary Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up, who was released from prison recently, revealed that she spent a significant part of her teenage years questioning whether she was attracted to women. She shared her deep emotional journey surrounding her sexual identity with viewers.
The 32-year-old was subjected to a lifetime of abuse by her mother, Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard. Dee Dee deceived Gypsy into believing she suffered from numerous health conditions, including Muscular Dystrophy and Leukaemia.
Dee Dee was diagnosed with Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy, a rare psychological disorder where the caregiver fabricates or induces illness symptoms in a child.

Gypsy plotted to ‘escape’ the years of torment inflicted by her mother with the ‘assistance’ of her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn. He brutally murdered Dee Dee in her sleep by stabbing her 17 times and is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for his crime.
Gypsy was released from prison last year, and spoke about her time in prison on the documentary: “For a long time, I actually kind of questioned my own sexuality because as a teenager or preteen, I felt that I was attracted to girls and I got to experiment with that in prison. I think I’ve kissed more girls than I have guys.”
She also showcased some lingerie items that her estranged husband, Ryan Anderson, bought for her early in their relationship, hoping that their bond would continue after her sentence ended. One bra was mostly open, with a piece of fabric tied to cover the breasts, resembling a gift bow.
Another item, which Gypsy said she had wanted to wear for their first intimate encounter, was a long black slip-style garment.
Admitting that she didn’t actually get to wear the lingerie on her first time as it happened so fast, she was preoccupied leading up to the moment. She confessed: “I’m self-conscious because I have scars all over my body and I had a lot of surgeries that were unnecessary and so I’m like, ‘Am I going to be what he wants me to be? ‘ ‘Am I attractive to him?'”
Gypsy acknowledged she struggled with her sexuality “for years.”
She further disclosed: “Even to the point that I’m like, ‘Don’t even look at me down there, don’t because ‘and he’s like, ‘It’s okay.'”
