Strictly’s Nick Knowles issues heartfelt response as he’s axed from BBC competition

The Strictly results show was brimming with tension tonight as another celebrity bit the dust after a nail-biting dance-off.

Last Sunday, songstress Toyah Willcox waved goodbye to the BBC extravaganza when she and partner Neil Jones found themselves in the last two against footie ace Paul Merson and his dance mate Karen Hauer.

The previous week’s show had also dished out its share of drama with Olympic swim champ Tom Dean and his pro Nadiya Bychkova being the first duo to get booted off the dance floor. Now, following Saturday’s sizzling performances, we’ve seen another pair gutted to hang up their dancing shoes – this time around it was all eyeballs on Love Island’s very own Tasha Ghouri and her twirling partner Aljaz Skorjanec who stormed the leaderboard.

Yet it was Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu who wound up facing Nick and Luba in the feared dance-off, despite Shayne and Nancy’s middle-of-the-pack Cha Cha. The judges’ vote was unanimous, opting to keep them strutting their stuff for at least one more whirl, reports the Mirror.

Nick, visibly moved by being ushered off the stage said: “I’ve really been surprised by how much I’ve loved doing it.” He elaborated: “Two things happen: one, is how much you care each week, and the other is how much you don’t want to let down your partner.”

“The only reason I could do this this evening was because of Luba’s changes.” Reflecting on his time working with Luba and her adaptability in the face of his injury, he said simply: “She did amazing.”

An emotional Luba was full of praise for Nick’s “determination” as she fought back tears saying: “Thank you.” Nick made sure to express gratitude towards the crew who had supported him through his injury and took a moment to wish his fellow contestants the best of luck.

It was a particularly harsh exit for Nick, as he had just made a comeback to the competition after suffering from a severe injury. The home improvement whizz’s participation had been uncertain before Saturday night’s live show, with questions hanging over whether he would be given the medical green light to return to the dance floor.

Last week’s mishap left Nick relying on crutches, preventing him from performing during Movie Week, which is why he was back on stage performing the Rain On The Roof number from Paddington 2 with Luba.

Nick’s injury happened in a dress rehearsal the previous week when he took a tumble completing a jump, leading to a knee injury.

Adding insult to injury, Nick had also sustained a shoulder injury not while dancing but during a mundane task changing a car tyre.

Despite the pain, he powered through that week’s performance, although it meant he had to practice wearing a sling for a chunk of the training sessions.
