In a shocking development, former One Direction heartthrob Liam Payne has died at the tender age of 31. The pop sensation’s life was tragically cut short when he plunged from a third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires on Wednesday.
Liam had been lapping up a whirlwind Argentine adventure with his girlfriend of two years, Kate Cassidy. Just before the tragic incident, the singer was out supporting his mate Niall Horan during an electrifying gig on October 2 at the Movistar Arena, as part of Horan’s Latin American tour.
The star was caught on camera dancing the Macarena from a VIP box. He became the centre of attention when fans spotted him, and a TikTok vid even surfaced showing a moment when security tried to interrupt his vibe — but Liam wasn’t having any of it, continuing to dance away much to the crowd’s glee.

He didn’t stop there; as mere days later, Liam hit Sir Paul McCartney’s show and then was seen chilling in San Antonio de Areco. Throughout the week, fans were treated to glimpses of the celeb as he roamed Buenos Aires streets, mingling with admirers and snapping selfies.
Some eagle-eyed fans captured Liam donning the iconic Argentina national football team kit. Over on Snapchat, Liam couldn’t help but brag about the “quality time” spent with his girlfriend Kate, sharing a sweet selfie.
Ever the social media savant, he kept his followers in the loop about his escapades, including horseback rides and planned polo shenanigans.
Liam was residing at the Hotel CasaSur in Palermo, Argentina when he tragically passed away. His whereabouts for the 10 days before his check-in on October 13 remain unknown.

Buenos Aires police confirmed the sad news in a statement: “Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo.”
It is believed that Liam was alone at the time of his death as Kate had returned to America two days earlier. Speaking about her early departure on TikTok, she said: “Honestly, love South America but I hate staying in one place for too long. And we were supposed to be there for, like, five days, turned into two weeks.”
“I was just like, ‘I need to go home’.”
Before her flight back to Florida, Kate also mentioned suffering a “weird rash” due to her fear of flying.
She has not yet commented on Liam’s death. The former X Factor star leaves behind a seven year old son, Bear, whom he shares with ex-partner and Girls Aloud star Cheryl.
The pair were together for two years before splitting in 2018.
