Forget exorcists – Yvette Fielding reckons giving ghosts a good telling off is the best way to clear them out of houses.
The former Most Haunted host, 56, says haunting victims must take a “firm”, “direct” and “respectful” tone when warning poltergeists to stop their spooky shenanigans.
She said when asked for her top tips to carry out a DIY exorcism on a ghoul: “Talk to it: The very first thing to do is to talk out loud to the spirit in the house. You need to be firm, direct but respectful.

“You must let them know that they are scaring you and must stop their activities. Talk to them as if they are really there. Ask them politely to stop and that you mean them no harm or disrespect.”
Yvette’s advice comes after she examined spooky Ring door camera footage of ghostly flying orbs and a disembodied voice at houses across Britain. As part of her ghostbusting advice, the paranormal fanatic advised capturing hauntings on tape and in diaries.
She said: “Place more recording devices like Ring Indoor Camera around the house to capture any audio or visual paranormal activity. Diarise the events – keep a diary of all strange events in the household. This can be shared with a professional later on if they require it.”
Yvette admitted if scolding and taping spooks doesn’t stop their hauntings, there is no choice but to call in “professional” ghost hunters. But she warned: “Make sure you do your research before engaging a company. They need to have had lots of experience in these matters.”
Yvette has also shared a list of warning signs homes could be haunted. Top of the list is “unexplained knocking or ringing of the doorbell”.
Knocking, banging and tapping sounds coming from the walls, ceiling or floors is another red-alert sign your house has a ghoul infestation. Other top haunting signs included footsteps being heard walking around the house, furniture moving on its own and electrical appliances turning themselves on and off.
Water is also a big sign you have a poltergeist, according to Yvette. She said taps suddenly starting flowing and mysterious water puddles appearing in the house are top signs of a haunting.
Yvette has said she’s convinced her family home is haunted by two sinister child ghosts and an ancient royal soldier. She also reckons her late dad came to her in a dream to show her what the afterlife looked like.
Yvette said the child spirits at her pad constantly played pranks on her family when they first moved into the home in Sandbach, Cheshire – including piling chairs into a pyramid while they were asleep.
The ghost nut believes the child spirits are called Benjamin and Elizabeth. She said: “When we first moved in they played a lot of pranks on us.”
