Horror fans have been eagerly awaiting an update on the highly anticipated sequel to the cult classic 28 Days Later, and now they’ve finally got one.
The original film released in 2002 and starred Cillian Murphy as a man who awakens in a deserted London hospital to find the city overrun by zombies. Directed by Danny Boyle, the movie has since been hailed as ‘one of the greatest zombie films ever made’.
A sequel, 28 Weeks Later, followed in 2007, but it’s been a long 17-year wait for the next instalment. Now, fans have been given a major update on the third film in the series, 28 Years Later, which is set to hit cinemas in June next year.

The story follows a young boy in northern England as he tries to save his mother, 28 years after the events of the first film. It boasts an all-star cast, including Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with Boyle returning to the director’s chair.
To build excitement, the film’s poster has been unveiled, featuring the ominous tagline “Time didn’t heal anything” against a backdrop of skulls forming a biohazard symbol, reports the Mirror.
Movie buffs have struggled to contain their excitement over the latest update, with fans rushing to comment on the teaser. One enthusiast wrote: “I’m so psyched for this movie, huge fan of the previous films and this film will no doubt be absolutely amazing when it comes out, thank you Sony for bringing us back to this universe!”

While another said, they’ve “waited years for a third film” while one quipped: “Triple feature marathon anyone.”
The absence of Cillian Murphy’s name from the poster stirred up chatter among die-hard followers about his role in the upcoming flick. Although he missed out on 28 Weeks Later, the Oscar-winning actor will return to the franchise in an unexpected way.
When pressed for details on whether Murphy would be involved, Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman told Deadline: “Yes, but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way… This is Danny (Boyle) at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver. Sometimes when you put a real signature director into a commercial arena, it elevates it.”
