Travis frontman Fran Healy had to be wheeled out of the venue after suffering the nasty injury during a gig in the US – and now he’s updated fans on how he’s doing
The singer of a beloved rock band had to be rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
Travis frontman Fran Healy suffered a gnarly injury on stage while on a US tour with the iconic Scottish band. It seems there have been a few stars hospitalised recently, including Pointless star Richard Osman.
Fran, 51, was finishing up a gig at the Showbox in Seattle, Washington, on Monday night (February 3) when things took a turn for the worse. He had to be wheeled out of the venue and helped into an ambulance when he twisted his ankle – and feared he had broken his ankle.
The band, known for several hits including Sing and Closer are currently wowing crowds across North America on their Raze The Bar tour, which kicked off in January. However, it looks like Fran will have to continue the rest of the tour with a walking boot while his ankle heals.
The singer took to the band’s Instagram to update fans on how he was getting on – ahead of taking to the stage in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. He reassured them that he hadn’t broken his ankle like he’d feared and that the “show must go on” despite the injury.
He filmed himself laying down in his hotel bed so that he could rest his ankle. The singer said: “If anyone saw me being wheeled out of the venue last night on a gurney and being put into an ambulance it’s because I seriously twisted my ankle stepping off stage, as I was waving goodbye to everyone, it sort of twisted around back to front.
“We thought it was broken, went to hospital, thankfully it’s just a really gnarly sprain. I’ve got one of these massive big space shoes now so when you turn up to Salt Lake City you can all laugh at that. The show must go on, we’ll see you there, we’ll see you on the rest of the tour.
“I’m fine, I’m slightly dizzy just now because I’m on some painkillers but apart from that it’s all good. Oh and I’m watching Antiques Roadshow, bye,” he joked.
Travis, who were formed in Glasgow back in 1990, is composed of members Fran, Dougie Payne, Andy Dunlop, and Neil Primrose. The band got their name from the character Travis Henderson (played by Harry Dean Stanton) from the film Paris, Texas.
