The Vivienne was “found dead in his bathroom”, an inquest has been told.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race star, real name James Lee Williams, was found dead on 5 January and an inquest into his death was opened on 12 February. Coroner’s officer Amanda Edgar said that James was found in the bathroom of his house in Chorlton-by-Backford.
Police have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances and Edgar said: “Post-mortem testing has been undertaken, identifying an unnatural cause of death.”
During the hearing, which reportedly lasted around two minutes, it was said that The Vivienne’s father Lee Williams identified the body.

Area coroner Victoria Davies said: “Given the unnatural cause of death identified on post-mortem testing it is appropriate for me to formally open the inquest into the death of James Lee Williams,” before adding that further investigation will be required.
The case was adjourned, with a full inquest set to occur on 30 June. The hearing was reportedly attended by four members of the press.
The Vivienne skyrocketed to fame after winning the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. Williams went on to star in Dancing on Ice back in 2023, during which he placed third.

Aside from his telly appearances, Williams was known for his stage performances. He previously performed as the Wicked Witch of the West in the UK and Ireland tour of The Wizard of Oz, later reprising the role in the West End last year.
Excited fans were keen to see him undertake the role of the Child Catcher in the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tour, which was set to continue this month [February 2025].
