Maura Higgins and Pete Wicks ‘call time on romance’ on Valentine’s Day

Maura Higgins and Pete Wicks have reportedly called time on their romance, just weeks after the Love Island star tried to deny their relationship on Loose Women

Reality TV faves Pete Wicks and Maura Higgins have reportedly hit the brakes on their love story.

According to reports, the duo reckon they’re “better off as friends” after a series of tiffs after their stints on Strictly Come Dancing and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last year.

Maura got previously opened up about their potential love life while she was roughing it in the jungle, but they never slapped an official label on it. The pair, who were mates for six years, have been doing the teasing fans with their romance for months now.

They were spotted sharing a smooch during a dinner date in Soho back in August. But it seems the flame’s fizzled out before they took things any further.

A source revealed to MailOnline: “Maura and Pete have decided to call off their romance. There have been a few clashes, and it was eventually agreed they were better off as friends.”

Those in the know say it’s been a very on and off affair, which is why they kept it under wraps from the get-go. The split has hit the headlines just weeks after Maura played it coy about her love life on Loose Women.

The ex-Love Island bombshell turned red when quizzed about her rumoured beau Pete. When probed if she’d fancy a stint on the All Stars version of the ITV2 show that shot her to fame, Maura was quick to shut it down with a firm “no”, insisting: “My dating show days are done!, reports the Mirror.

The panel didn’t miss a beat, digging deeper into her remark, prompting Maura to explain: “I don’t want to go on a dating show, I’ve turned down All Stars before and I turned down the Celebs Go Dating. I’ve done it once [Love Island] and I spent the whole time in Love Island single!”

Katie Piper then chimed in: “So is that you saying you’re not single?” A flustered Maura retorted: “No, did I say that? I know what you’re doing! No, I never said anything, next question!”

Frankie Bridge went straight for the jugular, asking: “Is there anything going on with Pete?” as the audience clapped, hinting they’d be a smashing pair. Maura responded: “Do we? I never really thought about it. He’s got better hair than me to be fair! There’s not really much to tell, I know that’s very boring, we’ve known each other for what, six years? We spend time together, we get on very well, our personalities are very very similar and he’s a great person but there’s actually nothing to tell. There’s really not though, no one believes me, there’s not!”
