Celebrity chef James Martin has revealed he was once “distracted” by a scantily clad lady who “was wearing very little” causing him to crash his car outside a restaurant
James Martin has revealed he once crashed his car outside of a luxury restaurant because he was “distracted” by a woman who was “wearing very little”.
The 52-year-old said he was driving into the high-end hotel and spa for his first day of work when the guest caught his attention. The celebrity chef said he ended up crashing into a lamppost right outside of his new boss’s office.
Martin spent two years as a pastry chef at the award winning Chewton Glen, in Hampshire’s New Forest, when he was 21-years-old. Discussing his first day at work, the TV personality told Candis magazine: “I was distracted by a lady coming out of the spa wearing very little and crashed my car into a lamppost in front of the owner’s office.”
Martin went on to become head chef at the Hotel Du Vin in Winchester, also Hampshire, before he appeared on TV on shows including Ready Steady Cook and Big Breakfast.
He said: “I’ll never forget being sent my first cheque for 650 quid. I thought there’d been some mistake. I was used to saving up £10 over four weeks to buy a CD.
“When I’d received another couple of cheques, I part-exchanged my little Ford Fiesta and bought a Lotus Caterham, the most ridiculous car ever with no doors or roof. I loved it but then I’ve always been a petrolhead.”
Last month the TV chef left viewers drooling over their screens as he whipped up a storm in the kitchen with The Inbetweeners legend James Buckley and his missus Clair Meek, who co-host their hilarious podcast, The Buckleys.
He showed off the succulent slow-cooked beef swimming in a boozy ale and red wine gravy, all encased in a crispy puff pastry shell. Martin also introduced sweet carrots cooked with a hint of star anise for that extra kick.
As the pie was nearly done, Martin announced: “Right, so we’re just going to take our little pie. This is our pie with our beautiful filling…”
