John Bishop has ditched his chat show.

The comedian scored big ratings and secured big-name guests including Shania Twain, Sir Ian McKellen and Courteney Cox during two series on ITV. But he’s called time on The John Bishop Show because he thinks it’s too tough to compete with rivals.

He said: “I’m not going to do another series of my chat show. It was great to do, but I found that I was competing in a space that was congested.

“Graham Norton is brilliant at it and Jonathan Ross is brilliant at it. We don’t really need another chat show.”

John also hated that his interviews had to be so short. The star prefers to do longer chats on his podcast The Bishop Exchange.

He said: “A chat show doesn’t allow you to do the depth of interviews that I would have liked to have done.

“With television, you’ve got to fit into schedules. But with the podcast, I can do it whenever I want to do it.”

John is also gearing up to do a UK tour to celebrate 25 years in comedy.
