Netflix reboots animated series in live action remake but fans say ‘who asked for this’

Get ready for a real-life Mystery Inc. gang as a live-action Scooby-Doo series is set to premiere on Netflix.

The streaming giant has given the green light for an eight-episode run.

Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series at Netflix, confirmed the news, stating: “Mystery, Inc. is back in business! We’re excited to bring Scooby-Doo to TV as a live-action series for the first time.”

Friedlander highlighted the impact of the iconic franchise, noting: “The beloved franchise has had an impact on pop culture that is undeniable – it’s rich with universal themes of friendship that generations of fans have long embraced.”

The Netflix executive further expressed his enthusiasm about teaming up with Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio to captivate both long-time enthusiasts and new fans of the franchise.

The show’s synopsis has also been unveiled, reading: “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.”, reports the Mirror US.

“Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

Since the announcement, the Internet has been buzzing with fans airing their views on Reddit, many of whom appear to be worried.

One concerned fan wrote: “Hey Netflix quit ruining my childhood cartoons with s****y live action remakes. Thanks.”

A few fans are uncertain how the latest endeavour will turn out but are more than happy to see another iteration of the show they love.

Other commenters shared their views in support of this remake, adding they will “reserve judgment” on whether the reimagining of the original series will succeed or not.

An unenthused Reddit user took a swipe at the idea, quipping: “I do not have faith. Netflix and live action adaptations don’t work great.”

Meanwhile, another added their two pence, saying: “The show just doesn’t work as a live action TV show or movies, it’s perfectly fine as a cartoon.”

Another chipped in with a bit of sarcasm: “Who asked for this? ,” while someone else kept it short and sweet with a resigned: “Oh no.”

Despite the doubters, there’s still some shiny optimism out there. One eager beaver piped up: “I just hope this turns out great. I’m super curious to know how Scooby will look. Hope the casting turns out great too.”

Scooby Doo first scampered onto the scene in 1969, with Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and the iconic pooch themselves, unravelling spooky mysteries involving all sorts of bizarre creatures.

This ain’t the franchise’s first rodeo with real actors, mind you. The zany bunch first hit the big screen in 2002 with Scooby Doo and they came back for seconds with Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed in 2004.

The live action movie starred Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini and Rowan Atkinson
