Pop Smoke's Debut Album Set for June Release

The first studio album by the late ‘Meet the Woo 2’ rapper is scheduled to come out in June this year, four months after he was gunned down in a home invasion.
    May 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – The highly-anticipated debut album from tragic rapper Pop Smoke will be posthumously released next month, June 2020.
The “Welcome to the Party” hitmaker had been working on the project back in February 2020 when he was fatally shot during a home invasion at his Hollywood Hills property.
50 Cent subsequently took it upon himself to complete the 20 year old’s first studio release as executive producer, and used social media to appeal to stars like Drake, Post Malone, Chris Brown, and Roddy Ricch to add features to the tracks, which he had initially hoped to drop in May.
Now Pop Smoke’s manager, Steven Victor, has revealed fans will get to hear the finished product within weeks.
He shared the album artwork on Instagram on Thursday, unveiling a shiny silver rose against a black background, and simply captioned it with the release date, writing, “June 12 2020.”
A title has yet to be announced.
Although it will serve as Pop Smoke’s first album, he previously served up two mixtapes for fans, with his most recent release, “Meet the Woo 2”, debuting at number seven on America’s Billboard 200 chart in early February, days before he was murdered.

Travis McCready Concert Is Postponed, but Not Happily

The Arkansas authorities Thursday seized the liquor license of a concert hall planning what had been billed as the first major rock concert since the pandemic, forcing the promoters to delay the show, which was originally scheduled for Friday in Fort Smith.A day earlier the state Department of Health issued a cease-and-desist order to the promoter, Temple Live, anticipating that it intended to violate state rules governing the reopening of concerts. The promoters said they were applying to reschedule the concert, featuring Travis McCready, a country-rock singer, for just a few days later, Monday, May 18, at Temple Live. The promoters denounced what they characterized as a pre-emptive, and heavy-handed enforcement action while, they said, negotiations were ongoing.“‘We the people,’ three amazing words, and they have been trampled on today,” Mike Brown, a representative of Temple Live, said at a televised news conference.Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas said that the concert failed to meet the state’s public health directives for live concerts. The challenge had attracted national attention because the show was seen as a potential test of whether fans were ready to return to live musical events after the coronavirus brought the concert industry to a halt in March.Starting Monday, May 18, the governor is allowing indoor venues such as theaters, arenas and stadiums to reopen in Arkansas, but he had insisted that audiences be limited to fewer than 50 people. Temple Live had planned on more than four times that number of fans — 229 — in the 1,100-seat theater for the concert, which was scheduled for just three days before the relaxed guidelines took effect.Promoters had remained defiant this week, accusing the state authorities of discrimination because churches were already allowed to open, with social distancing requirements but without limits to the number of people attending. “We are not trying to be difficult,” Mr. Brown told reporters on Wednesday. “We just want to be treated fairly and with respect.” Mr. Brown said tickets for the Friday show would be honored on Monday. He had asked the authorities to provide scientific evidence that the virus could be more easily transmitted at a concert than a church. In public comments Wednesday, a health department official said the concert was different because people would be attending from different states and so coming into contact with people they would not normally encounter.Attention is now likely to shift to another concert the promoter is planning involving Mr. McCready, scheduled for Saturday in Pineville, Mo., about two hours away. That concert is to be held outdoors at the Tall Pines Distillery where the audience is being limited to 400 people. The setting for the concert is an eight-acre field, which organizers said will make it relatively straightforward to meet social distancing requirements. More

Snoop Dogg Wants to Battle Jay-Z in Instagram Rap Showdown

    Instagram

Snoop has issued a challenge against Beyonce Knowles’ husband in an Instagram rap battle because he’s the King of the West and the Jiggman is the King of New York.
    May 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Snoop Dogg wants to face off against Jay-Z as part of Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s “Verzuz” series of Instagram Live rap battles.
The virtual, livestream contests see each artist play one verse and one chorus from 20 hits they created for fans’ entertainment amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Previous editions have pitted Erykah Badu against Jill Scott, The-Dream up against Sean Garrett, and even Timbaland and Swizzy against one another – and Snoop has big plans for the next instalment.
Speaking to Fat Joe during a recent Instagram Live broadcast about wanting to face off against a rapper at the top of their game, he explained, “Biggie (Smalls, The Notorious B.I.G.) passed away, then Nas had it for a minute and then Jay-Z took it and ran with it for a numerous amount of years.”
“Then 50 Cent came and ran with it for his numerous amount of years. This is me looking at it from the outside, looking at New York rap,” the “Gin & Juice” star continued. “So for me, it would be Snoop vs. Jay-Z because he had been the King of New York around the same time I’ve been the King of the West.”
Jay has yet to publicly accept the challenge.
Swizz previously told Britain’s NME magazine of the series, “It’s not really a battle – it’s a celebration of our heroes in music, the ones who make us feel a certain type of way.”

Trina Sounds Off on Instagram Live: 'I Deserve A Lot More Credit'

    Instagram

Following her song battle with Trick Daddy on Instagram Live, the ‘Love and Hip Hop: Miami’ star goes on a lengthy rant about how she is ‘not insecure’ despite being ‘very underrated.’
    May 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Trina had a message for everyone who tuned in to her and Trick Daddy song battle on Wednesday, May 13. Following the battle on Instagram Live, the “Love & Hip Hop: Miami” star went on a lengthy rant about how she was “very underrated” and that she deserved “a lot more credit.”
“You never catch up to me. You feel me? When I say hits, I’m not on Billboard top, I’m not at none of that,” she said. “You understand? Yeah, I’m very underrated. I deserve a lot more credit.”
She went on saying, “Your idols is my fans. They idolize me. Your faves is my fans. You feel me? Every female artist that in the game, I salute, I cherish, I big them up. You know why? I’m not insecure. I’m not jealous.”

Fans, however, were not feeling Trina’s message. “She be acting like she [Beyonce Knowles] or sum,” a fan wrote in the comment of The Shade Room’s post after watching the video. “I like Trina, but she stay too hype & go off too much to not be pressed,” another fan added.
Someone else wrote, “Trina you my girl but pack it up already.” Meanwhile, one person wondered, “Lmaoooooooooo who gassed her up this hard.”
Khia would be the answer of that question. She had been putting Trina on blast lately as she accused Trina of having nothing but HIV in an Instagram tirade. “Talking about Diamond Princess, B***h you pawned all of your diamonds a long time ago. H*e you don’t own nothing but HIV, and the HIV medications, cuz thats the only thing you’ve ever had was d**k and diseases up yo a** b***h. We the people wanna know who playing yo s**t sour p**s? Who remaking your s**t baddest basset hound? Who sampling your hits slinky neck b***h? Queen of f***ing five or six best friends. Who you writing for? Flopping W***e,” Khia said.
She also said, “Now, I know you’re still mourning the death of your mammy, you’re still grieving. So Imma let you have your little burst of confusion and let you slide when you act like you don’t know a b***h. You ain’t gon’ address a b***h, but you sat up there and talked about a b***h for 30 goddamn minutes.”
Khia’s rant arrived after Trina dismissed Khia’s challenge to have a song battle. “When you girls are calling my name, you want to battle, make sure you have ten hits. Make you sure have enough records. Make sure you’re on my level if you think you want to go toe to toe with me,” Trina previously responded to the matter in her radio show.

The New Museum Is Offering Strange Stories for Trying Times

It is no surprise that the storytelling series Maurizio Cattelan initiated doesn’t include “Goodnight Moon” or “The Tale of Peter Rabbit.” As an artist, Mr. Cattelan is known for skillfully subverting the expectations of his audience. Instead “Bedtime Stories,” a new digital offering from the New Museum, features cultural luminaries like David Byrne, Takashi Murakami and Elizabeth Peyton sharing selections from their favorite books, many of which are not standard nighttime fare for children or adults.Mr. Byrne, for example, will read from “The Three Christs of Ypsilanti,” a case study by the social psychologist Milton Rokeach about an experiment he conducted on three patients who believed themselves to be Jesus Christ. “Preface to a Twenty Volume Suicide Note,” by Amiri Baraka, and “Gravity and Grace,” by Simone Weil, are among the atypical books that other participants chose.“It would have been quite depressing if all the invited artists and contributors had chosen fairy tales and children stories,” Mr. Cattelan said by email. “We look to artists for their ability to show us the unexpected so I am thankful to all the participants for coming up with some genuinely weird stuff.”As the project took shape, some of the contributors decided to write material of their own rather than pull from their libraries. In its debut installment, which was released on the museum’s website and social media channels on Thursday, the punk-rock icon Iggy Pop shares his memories of his beloved dog by reading a love letter he wrote for the deceased pet. In a later installment, Marilyn Minter, a painter and photographer, will recite a political limerick she wrote about President Trump. While he is known for playful provocation, Mr. Cattelan was earnest about his hopes for the series: “I thought of this project really not as an artwork but simply as a way of being together with others in a moment of isolation.” Stories, he explained, can also be a welcome diversion from the barrage of images we’re often submitted to. “You could say all of my work is about the power of images and their seductiveness and their complexities. But sometimes it’s worth showing less and listening more.”Other contributors to “Bedtime Stories” will include Jeff Koons, Camille Henrot, Raymond Pettibon and Maya Lin. A new segment will be posted daily. More
