Liam Payne Calls One Direction Breakup 'Stupid Decision' They Made When They're 'Tired'

    WENN

The ‘Strip That Down’ singer blames exhaustion after non-stop traveling for the decision to disband One Direction back in 2015 following Zayn Malik’s exit.
    Apr 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – One Direction’s split was caused by “tiredness more than anything,” according to singer Liam Payne.
The British boyband went on an extended hiatus in 2015 following the departure of Zayn Malik from the group. And in an interview on Jordan Stephens’ Spotify podcast “Killing It”, Liam admitted that the boys’ hectic schedules and lack of sleep were partly responsible with how things came to an end.
“We all just got on with it, you know, it was just a case of this is your job and this is what you do and then you just slowly spiralled into this thing,” he explained. “I mean, more than anything for us, I think the danger zone is in the band. And actually what probably caused the demise of it, towards the end, was just the tiredness more than anything. Everyone makes stupid decisions when they’re tired.”
Liam’s revelation comes after bandmate Niall Horan previously told Britain’s The Daily Telegraph newspaper, “We got tired… just tired out. Five albums, five tours, in five years. We were all knackered.”
Elsewhere on “Killing It”, Liam reflected on being rejected from “The X Factor U.K.” as a 14-year-old – two years before he returned and was put into a group that eventually became One Direction.
“People would ridicule me in the street and all sorts when I was, like, 15 or 16,” he recalled. “I once went in McDonald’s when I was turning 16 and I went up to order my thing, went to sit down with the girl I was with at the time and a group of lads at the top of the stairs were like, ‘X Factor reject!’ ”
“Then the whole restaurant was looking at me. It was a really hollow moment, that was like, ‘Oh right, now I know what it’s like to lose fame.’ ”
Fans are convinced the group is set to reunite for its 10th anniversary later this year 2020, after Liam, Niall, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson all re-followed former member Zayn Malik on Twitter – five years after his sensational departure from the band.

Albert K. Webster, Who Built Up the New York Philharmonic, Dies at 82

This obituary is part of a series about people who have died in the coronavirus pandemic.Albert K. Webster, who as managing director of the New York Philharmonic ushered the ensemble into the modern era, when major orchestras began to resemble corporations, died on April 3 at his home in Manhattan. He was 82.The cause was complications related to Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, Sally Webster, Mr. Webster’s wife, said.Mr. Webster held the Philharmonic’s top post from 1975 through 1990, mostly coinciding with Zubin Mehta’s music directorship. Mr. Webster’s accomplishments were unglamorous yet crucial: enormous growth in subscriptions, gifts and the endowment, as well as musicians’ salaries.Beyond the Philharmonic, he helped create the American Arts Alliance and worked with the League of American Orchestras and the National Endowment for the Arts.“Nick lived and breathed the Philharmonic,” Deborah Borda, the orchestra’s current leader, said.Albert Knickerbocker Webster — he was known as “Nick” — was born on Oct. 14, 1937 in Brooklyn, and grew up in Ridgewood, N.J. He graduated from Harvard University in 1959 with a degree in physics but was trained and active in music, performing with the Harvard Glee Club and spending two summers in France studying composition with the celebrated teacher Nadia Boulanger. In 1962, Mr. Webster was hired as the assistant to the Philharmonic’s general manager, Carlos Moseley. At the time, Leonard Bernstein was the music director, and Mr. Webster’s first job was to move the orchestra’s offices from Carnegie Hall to the newly constructed Lincoln Center. He was promoted to assistant manager in 1965, then left to run the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in 1971. The Philharmonic lured him back with an offer of the top post in 1975. Pierre Boulez was the music director, though only for a short time before Mr. Mehta was brought on in 1978.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kate Webster, and three grandchildren. His son, Albert V.B. Webster, died in January.Mr. Webster had a hand in improving facilities for the orchestra’s Parks Concerts, and the creation of chamber music groups drawn from the orchestra. By the time he left, musicians’ minimum salaries nearly tripled. Subscriptions rose from 27,000 to 37,000. The endowment had risen from $9.8 million to $69 million and annual giving more than tripled.During his time at the Philharmonic public attention was almost entirely reserved for Mr. Mehta. And that was how Mr. Webster liked it. “It’s not my style to be out front in that way,” he told The New York Times in 1979. “My style is to operate more quietly, behind the scenes.”[embedded content] More

    WENN

The ‘Never Worn White’ singer, who is pregnant with her first child, gives a cryptic reaction to a fan’s question if a show in Sin City could be on the cards during a Facebook Q&A session.
    Apr 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Katy Perry looks set to bounce back after the coronavirus lockdown, after hinting at a new Las Vegas residency show.
The “Never Worn White” singer, who is currently expecting her first child – a daughter – with fiance Orlando Bloom, teased during a Facebook Q&A session on Easter Sunday, April 12 that a show in Sin City could be on the cards.
A fan called Patrick asked Katy whether a regular gig would be a possibility and, when Katy seemingly saw the question, she said, “Hey Patrick… That one was for you,” after giving a wink to the camera.
Last year, it was reported by the Las Vegas Review Journal that the “Small Talk” singer was seen taking a tour of The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, where Celine Dion played for 16 years.

“She and members of her entourage were shown the balcony and lower-level seating and also visited the Colosseum’s dressing rooms,” a source said at the time.

Drake Able to Focus on New Album Thanks to Coronavirus Lockdown

    Instagram

The ‘God’s Plan’ hitmaker offers an update on his new material when joining hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs for his digital Dance-A-Thon to raise COVID-19 relief funds.
    Apr 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – The coronavirus lockdown has given Drake the opportunity to give his upcoming album 100 per cent of his attention for the first time in over a decade.
The “God’s Plan” hitmaker shared an update on his new material late on Sunday (April 12), when he joined hip-hop mogul Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs for his digital Dance-A-Thon to raise COVID-19 relief funds.
During the Instagram Live chat, Drake, whose club residency in Las Vegas was postponed due to the public health crisis, admitted the last time he was able to clear his schedule and really focus completely on a single project was back in 2009, when he was sidelined by a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
“I’m working on the album, I’ve been working on it for a while now,” he said.
“Another silver lining (to lockdown) is, when God does get you to sit down – I remember the last time I had to sit down was when I tore my ACL. And I made a great album out of that,” Drake continued of his hit 2010 debut, “Thank Me Later”.
“Obviously God has us all inside the house right now sitting down, so the amount of focus I’m able to put into this album is probably way different than it would’ve been if I had to go through the residency in Vegas…”
And the forced downtime has been great for his creativity.
Teasing the forthcoming material, Drake smiled, “Definitely, this is the most excited I’ve been about an album in a long time. A lot of little stuff has been trickling out but all the stuff on the album is fresh, it’s brand new. I’m excited. This is probably the most music I’ve ever been sitting on. I’m hyped.”
The new release will serve as the follow-up to 2018’s “Scorpion”, although Drake has continually served up musical treats for fans, including his latest track, “Toosie Slide”.
Diddy played the single during Drake’s appearance on his charity fundraiser, and they even performed the viral dance routine together live online.
Elsewhere in the chat, Diddy revealed Drake had made it onto his top five list of all-time great MCs.
“Two years ago, three years ago, I didn’t know,” he confessed. “It’s clear the work you put in, you’re in my official Top Five. For real. That’s right. Y’all heard it. Hits, hits, hits, hits, hits, hits!”

Flattered by the huge compliment, Drake replied, “Thank you. That means the world to me. There’s very few opinions that hold as much weight as yours…”

Pitbull Encourages People to Face Fear in Coronavirus Anthem 'I Believe That We Will Win'

    [embedded content]

When asking fans to send him videos of them singing his uplifting song, the ‘Timber’ hitmaker announces that all proceeds will go toward various charities supporting COVID-19 relief efforts.
    Apr 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Pitbull is encouraging others to face their fear amid coronavirus crisis through an uplifting new song. On Monday, April 13, the “Timber” hitmaker releases a COVID-19 anthem titled “I Believe That We Will Win”, sending a message that humanity is bigger than the pandemic.
“You know what spreads faster than any virus? Is fear/ And when it comes to fear, you can either forget everything and run, or you can face everything and rise/ Let me tell you what I believe/ I believe we will face everything and rise,” the 39-year-old rapper kicks off the single. In the chorus, he chants, “I believe that we will win!/ Say it with me.”
Dishing on how the song came to be, the “Feel This Moment” rapper recalls when a close friend made a beat to the “I Believe That We Will Win” chant on the internet. “I thought it was crazy that he was showing it to me because it was literally when the lockdown started and I told him, ‘Man, this is what the world needs right now,’ ” he shares with Billboard.
“I knocked out the record within a day and a half and by the third day, we were ready to put out the snippet for everybody because I felt that that message is needed right now more than ever,” the one-time Grammy winner, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez, continues.
Pitbull further discusses his outlook over the crisis the world is currently facing. “I always look at things like a blessing in disguise. I look at solutions and opportunities and more than anything I look at the message and the lesson,” he gushes, adding that the pandemic has given “God’s green earth a couple of months to be able to breathe.”
The “We Are One” hitmaker additionally notes that “it reminded people to utilize technology, don’t let it use you. It got to the point that people were so connected that they were disconnected now they’re so disconnected that ironically they’re connected. I think it’s something great for humanity to come together now.”
“We’re going to get through this, we’ll fight through this,” he stresses. “We have a recovery number of nearly 400,000 worldwide and that’s what we need to be talking about. That’s what I look for and we should be talking about these numbers to give people hope and motivation. To be able to be a part of this historical time and see a response from people like, ‘Damn, I am strong, we can make it,’ that for me is priceless.”
Aside from trying to lift up people’s spirit with the single, Pitbull encourages fans to be a part of his video anthem by sending him a video that shows how much they believe. “I’m asking people to send their videos because it will be a world movement and what better than to start it in my backyard, the 305,” he explains.
Pitbull also announces that all proceeds of the song will go toward various charities supporting COVID-19 relief efforts. Saban Music Group founder Haim Saban backs the rapper’s statement by sharing, “Pitbull reached out saying he wanted to do this track and asked if I was in and I said, ‘I’m in if the revenue goes to charity’ and he said, ‘Absolutely, that’s not even a question’ and that’s how it all started.”

“I never doubted that it would work, I think mainly because I’m a student of Demi’s voice probably. Growing up listening to her music and singing her music and trying to sing like Demi Lovato, I’ve been training for this moment for a long time. I absolutely adore her.”

Ja Rule Challenges 50 Cent to Instagram Live Song Battle

    WENN

Fans quickly share an opinion about Ja’s desire to have an online battle with his longtime foe as some of them appear to be skeptical that the battle will really take place.
    Apr 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ja Rule is down for a real battle with rival 50 Cent. After feuding with the “In Da Club” rapper for almost 2 decades, Ja revealed in a new Instagram Live that he was ready for a battle with Fiddy for the next installment of Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s Versuz series.
“I want all the smoke but I’ll behave,” he promised to Swizz and Fat Joe during a livestreaming on April 11. Seemingly not being convinced, Swizz responded, “That sounds like a devilish behave.”
Fans quickly shared an opinion about Ja’s desire to have a battle with Fifty. “Ja Rule will never stand a chance against my man 50. He chasin clout,” one fan wrote on Twitter. Some others appeared to be skeptical that the battle would really take place. “I don’t think it’s gonna happen,” one tweeted.
However, should they really do this, one fan believed that “Ja Rule would win.” Another supporter said, “Ja has more hits then 50.” Some people were against the idea though, claiming, “Nobody wanna hear no jarule s**t come on.”
Ja and 50’s feud started back in 1999 when Ja was robbed at gunpoint for his chain in Southside Jamaica, Queens. Fiddy then claimed that Ja saw him at a club with the culprit only weeks later. Ja admitted to being robbed but he denied seeing 50 with the culprit. Further making things worse was when J and Murder Inc. rapper Black Child were arrested when 50 was stabbed at Hit Factory recording studio in New York.
The two rappers had released diss tracks about each other and openly taken a jab at each other on social media. Talking about their beef on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” back in 2019, Ja said, “Here’s the thing. We’ve been having this ongoing feud for, I don’t know, seems like it’s been fifteen years.”
“And, I think it’s time that we’ve grown past it. So, I’m to take the day on and … I am removing myself from the circus. Because, what I realized is that when you entertain clowns, you become part of the circus,” he continued. “He’s a bad father. He’s got like a big square box head. And, one more thing – he looks like his breath stinks.”

Drake Becomes First Male Artist to Score Three No.1 Debuts on Hot 100 Chart With 'Toosie Slide'

    WENN

Breaking his tie with Justin Bieber, the ‘God’s Plan’ hitmaker dethrones The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ on the Billboard countdown, and matches Mariah Carey’s milestone in the mid-to-late 1990s.
    Apr 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drake has broken chart records in the U.S., becoming the only male artist to score three number one debuts.
The rapper’s “Toosie Slide” has entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number one, matching Mariah Carey’s milestone in the mid-to-late 1990s.
“Toosie Slide” is Drake’s seventh total Hot 100 chart-topper. It joins “God’s Plan” and “Nice for What”, which both debuted at number one in 2018.
It breaks a tie with Justin Bieber, who has two number one debuts to his name.
Britney Spears and Ariana Grande have also debuted two songs at the top of the Hot 100.
Drake’s run of number ones began in 2010 with “What’s My Name?” – the hit he recorded with Rihanna.
“Toosie Slide” success gives Drake his 50th week at the top of the Hot 100. Only Mariah Carey, Rihanna and The Beatles have spent more weeks at number one.
He’s now just one top 10 hit behind Madonna, who has 38, and extends his record run of Hot 100 hits to 209.
The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” drops to two on the new countdown, while Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” also falls a spot to three.
Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” and Future’s “Life Is Good”, featuring Drake, complete the new top five.
Meanwhile, Post Malone has moved to within a week of matching the record for the longest Hot 100 top 10 run as “Circles” drops from four to six.

If he spends another week in the top flight, he’ll match a record tie with himself – for “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)”, Maroon 5 (“Girls Like You”), and Ed Sheeran (“Shape of You”). Those three tracks all spent 33 weeks in the top 10.
