    Instagram

In a new interview, the Hot Girl Summer reveals the reason she borrows the beat from the late rap legend for her track ‘B.I.T.C.H.’, noting that she can see herself in him.
    Mar 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Megan Thee Stallion’s “B.I.T.C.H.” track samples Tupac Shakur’s classic song “Ratha Be Ya N***a”. In a new interview, the Hot Girl Summer reveals the reason she borrows the beat from the late rap legend, noting that she can see herself in him.
“I super love Tupac. N.I.G.G.A. is like on my playlist, so, I’m just listening to it and I’m like, Hell nah. This would sound good if a girl really flipped it,” she shared in a recent sit-down with Genius for their Verified series.
Megan went on saying that she and the late rapper were somehow similar. “I really like the way Tupac speaks. Like, his cadence. His flow. He’s just very dominant. He just give big talk energy and I just feel like I do the same,” she noted. “When he talkin’, he just really be talkin’ that s**t that I like. I feel like when my Hotties listenin’ to me, that’s how they feel.”
In the interview, Megan also shared that unlike the lyrics of the song off her “Suga” album, she never fought another woman over a man. The star also hinted that one of her exes was trying to control her while they were together, though she didn’t name names.

Megan was able to talk about various things in the wide-ranging interview. Prior to this, she defended her love of twerking, saying, “I love to throw my a**. I love to shake my a**. That’s one of my favorite things to do.”
“And I be seeing motherf***ers be like, ‘All you do is shake yo’ a**.’ I be like, ‘Damn. Actually, I got to school and I rap and sometime I be cookin’,’ ” she shared. “I’m a dog mom. I’m an awesome friend. It’s not all I be doing, it’s just that maybe when you loggin’ in, you came to see me twerk, ’cause you ain’t see that freestyle I just dropped? I can rap and twerk.”

Bob Dylan’s 17-Minute Surprise, and 8 More New Songs

Every Friday, pop critics for The New York Times weigh in on the week’s most notable new songs and videos. Just want the music? Listen to the Playlist on Spotify here (or find our profile: nytimes). Like what you hear? Let us know at theplaylist@nytimes.com and sign up for our Louder newsletter, a once-a-week blast of our pop music coverage.Bob Dylan, ‘Murder Most Foul’[embedded content]Bob Dylan has suddenly released a 17-minute historical reflection, told in facts, bits of dialogue, bleak observations and song-lyric snippets. Accompanied by piano, drums, bowed bass and fiddle that linger over slow chords, Dylan intones each line with somber clarity. The assassination of John F. Kennedy is its core and central trauma — “the soul of a nation been torn away/and it’s beginnin’ to go into a slow decay” — while Dylan tries to find answers, or at least clues, in music. JON PARELESPartyNextDoor featuring Rihanna, ‘Believe It’A summery acoustic R&B number that would have been at home in the mid-1990s, “Believe It” is the marquee track from the new PartyNextDoor album, “Partymobile.” He’s gentle and a little tentative here, a man making sure he can get back in his partner’s good graces:If I propose, would you say no?Would you break my heart?Would you embarrass me or play your part?Baby don’t fold, my heart is yoursAnd then there’s Rihanna, singing soothing harmony, lightly chastising, playing hard to impress. He’s looking for certainty; she’s unlikely to give it. JON CARAMANICAJacob Collier featuring Kimbra and Tank & the Bangas, ‘In My Bones’Musicianly overkill is Jacob Collier’s vice and, in songs like this, his charm. He sings and plays a studio-full of instruments, and he can’t resist showing off his endless layerings, his dense harmonies, his slyly elaborate key changes. “In My Bones” is a homage to Prince, a studio concoction savoring a “funky feeling in my bones” (and featuring a lone guest instrumentalist, MonoNeon, busily thumb-popping the electric bass). Kimbra sings where Prince would switch to falsetto; Tank (of Tank & the Bangas) gets a quick rapping cameo. But it’s all about virtuosity; every pause and transition gets a conspicuous musical flourish, and the animated video flaunts every one. PARELESOh Land, ‘I Miss One Week Ago’Benjamin Gibbard, ‘Life in Quarantine’Cooped-up songwriters are going to write songs, and they’re thinking about the same topic as nearly everyone else. The Danish songwriter Nanna Oland Fabricius, a.k.a. Oh Land, sits at her piano and looks back at the trivial things that worried her before the national lockdown, with a poised vocal and a luminous final ascent; she also released an instrumental for others to record their own versions. Benjamin Gibbard, from Death Cab for Cutie, strums a guitar and contemplates his city, Seattle, in “these days of no guarantees.” Almost fondly, he notes, “People have a way of getting crazy when they think they’ll be dead in a month.” PARELESThe Kid Laroi, ‘Addison Rae’The ouroboros is here — a rap song that began as a snippet name-checking a TikTok star, which was then posted on TikTok, which was then heard by said TikTok star, who then made a TikTok video to it, which then led to a conversation between the TikTok star and the rapper, which then, in essence, forced the rapper’s hand into building a whole song atop that snippet, so that perhaps the TikTok star would star in the video. This is that song. It’s OK. CARAMANICAKane Brown and John Legend, ‘Last Time I Say Sorry’A sappy success. The young country star Kane Brown softens the edges of his rich voice for this measured sad-man duet with John Legend, who doesn’t give an inch. They are hurt. They are penitent. They will howl until you forgive them. CARAMANICAChicago Underground Quartet, ‘Batida’If you see the words “Chicago Underground” attached to any musical project, you can make a few assumptions. First, the trumpeter Rob Mazurek and the drummer Chad Taylor will be at the center of it, throwing a global haul of ideas together with a mishmash of electronic abrasions and voluptuous rhythm. And you can bet it will be worth your time. Both were true two decades ago, when Mazurek and Taylor first teamed up with the guitarist Jeff Parker and the bassist Noel Kupersmith to record the album “Chicago Underground Quartet,” now a 21st-century avant-garde classic. And they’re still true today. The quartet has just released its long-awaited second album, “Good Days,” with the young multi-instrumentalist Josh Johnson now filling Kupersmith’s role (though Johnson uses the piano, organ and synth bass). Most of the pieces here are war horses from the songbooks of Parker, Taylor or Mazurek. The only new tune is “Batida,” a grooving Taylor composition whose title and rhythm nod to the dance music styles of Lusophone Africa; the gangly beat becomes a perfect palette for Parker’s deliriously crooked guitar style. GIOVANNI RUSSONELLOAvishai Cohen, ‘Hidden Chamber’The trumpeter Avishai Cohen and his band Big Vicious wrote much of the material for their debut album together, blurring the processes of composition and rehearsing and recording into a single flow. “Hidden Chamber” is a piece Cohen brought to the band fully written, but even so, the looming, soused-in-effects sound of the band becomes the main propulsive force. The resolute pounding of twin drummers and the wash of guitar echo and beefed-up bass give lift and direction to the sigh of Cohen’s trumpet. As things drift away at the end, quotations from Mahatma Gandhi and Wayne Shorter turn an eye toward shared inspiration. RUSSONELLO More

Rihanna Makes Surprise Return to Music in PARTYNEXTDOOR's New Song 'Believe It'

The groove-filled slow jam, which is part of the ‘Loyal’ crooner’s newly-released album ‘Partymobile’, marks the Barbadian songstress’ first new music in three years.
    Mar 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rihanna’s long-awaited music comeback is finally here. On Friday, March 27, the Barbadian songstress surprised her fans by announcing the release of her collaboration with PARTYNEXTDOOR’s “Believe It”. She tweeted, “Believe it!! @partynextdoor album live!!!” along with a snippet of the music.
The new song, which has been made available for listening pleasure on YouTube and music streaming platforms, is a groove-filled slow jam that features Rihanna’s vocals at various points on the song. She takes up roughly 40 seconds of the track. “That’s when you believe it,” she croons on the hook. “That’s when you believe it/ Believe you want to see me.”

“Believe It” marks Rihanna’s first new music in three years. She previously teamed up with PND on her Drake-assisted single “Work”, which the Canadian singer/songwriter co-wrote.
“Believe It” is part of PND’s upcoming album “Partymobile”, his first album in four years, which was unveiled on Thursday at midnight via OVO Sound. The 15-track set also boasts a Drake collaboration, “Loyal”, which has spanned a remix.
Rihanna, meanwhile, was last featured in a single in 2017, when she appeared on N.E.R.D’s epic “Lemon”, Future’s “Selfish”, DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Loyalty”. Her last album “ANTI” debuted in 2016.
Her fans have since eagerly anticipated for her new album, which is dubbed “R9”. In October, she teased her upcoming new album, “I like to look at it as a reggae-inspired or reggae-infused album. It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks.”

Bob Dylan Comes Out With First Song in Eight Years Amid Coronavirus Crisis

    WENN

Surprising fans with the release of 17-minute-long ‘Murder Most Foul’, the ‘Hurricane’ singer introduced it as ‘an unreleased song we recorded a while back that you might find interesting.’
    Mar 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bob Dylan surprised fans by dropping his first new song in eight years on Thursday night, March 26, – the 17-minute-long “Murder Most Foul”.
The 78-year-old singer’s new track tells the story of the assassination of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy and includes lines such as, “They blew off his head while he was still in the car.”
Another, from Kennedy’s perspective, sees Dylan sing, “Riding in the backseat next to my wife / And it’s straight on into the afterlife / I’m leaning to the left I got my head in her lap.”
Speaking about the tune in a statement, Dylan said, “Greetings to my fans and followers with gratitude for all your support and loyalty over the years. This is an unreleased song we recorded a while back that you might find interesting. Stay safe, stay observant and may God be with you.”
    [embedded content]
It’s unclear exactly when “Murder Most Foul” was recorded, and a representative for the singer told Variety that no further information about the tune will be revealed.
The song, Dylan’s first original material since his album “Tempest” came out in 2012, has a running time of 16 minutes and 57 seconds – beating his previous record held by his 16-minute-and-31-second-long 1997 album tune “Highlands”.
After Dylan shared the new track on Twitter, his fans were quick to respond, with one referencing the coronavirus pandemic as they wrote, “Thank you Bob, your music has been getting us through these times.”
Another commented, “Very emotional song… The song was beautiful, music outstanding, lyrics deeply touching. Thank you for sharing.”

Isle of Wight Festival 2020 Gets Axed Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Another June event affected by the lockdown imposed to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 is Download Festival as organizers vow to assemble an ‘amazing line-up for 2021.’
    Mar 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – The 2020 Isle of Wight Festival has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Following the cancellation of Britain’s Glastonbury festival earlier this month, organisers of the Isle of Wight axed plans for the June event, as the U.K. remains in lockdown to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“The Isle of Wight Festival will no longer be taking place this year,” they said in a statement on Thursday, March 26. “This decision has not been taken lightly and we have tried out hardest to make it work, but it was unavoidable given the current status.”
“The whole team was excited to welcome everyone to the island for another fantastic festival and we extend our sincere apologies to everyone who was looking forward to it as much as we were,” organisers continued. “The safety of our audience, artists, crew and the Isle of Wight community is paramount and we appreciate your patience whilst we’ve been working through this unprecedented situation.”

The news was shared on Twitter, along with the announcement that the U.K.’s Download Festival, also set to take place in June, had been axed amid the global health crisis.

Both festivals vowed to return next year, with Isle of Wight teasing the event will be “stronger than ever”, and Download vowing to assemble an “amazing line-up for 2021.”
Isle of Wight Festival was set to be headlined by the likes of Lionel Richie, Lewis Capaldi, Snow Patrol, The Chemical Brothers, and Duran Duran, with Download featuring sets from KISS, Iron Maiden and System Of A Down.
They join the SXSW, Coachella, Stagecoach, Snowbombing 2020, and Ultra Music festivals around the world that have been cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic.

The Knack Offer Coronavirus Version of 'My Sharona' Parody From Quarantine

In a bizarre clip posted on YouTube, lead guitarist Berton Averre reveals that he and bassist Prescott Niles have been asked whether they were going to rework their 1979 hit due to the pandemic.
    Mar 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – The surviving founders of The Knack gave in to requests from fans and reworked their 1979 hit “My Sharona” as a coronavirus parody.
In a video posted on YouTube on Wednesday, March 25, lead guitarist Berton Averre revealed he and bassist Prescott Niles have received renewed attention due to the global pandemic, as fans have repurposed the song to reference “corona.”
“Some people have asked whether we were going to get around to doing our own ‘Sharona’ corona parody song, because apparently, there aren’t enough of them.”
“Sadly, our lead singer is no longer with us and trust me, you don’t want to hear me croak it out,” he said, referencing frontman Doug Fieger’s 2010 death from cancer.
In the bizarre clip, he goes on to say that he consulted his dogs on making a handwashing tutorial video, but instead settled on a close-up instruction video on how to play the song’s famous riff and solo.
    [embedded content]
However, at the end, he is then joined by Prescott and the pair join together in singing, “Bye, Corona!” instead of the usual chorus.
