Dixie Chicks to Make a Comeback With 'Gaslighter' – Watch the Teaser

    Instagram

Natalie Maines takes to her Instagram account to share a short clip of a male dancer moving along to the country group’s first single in more than a decade.
    Feb 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dixie Chicks has hyped up their comeback with a teaser. Months after revealing that their first studio album in fourteen years will be called “Gaslighter”, the “Not Ready to Make Nice” hitmakers gave fans a taste of their new music as frontwoman Natalie Maines put out a clip of what seems to be the music video for its title track.
Making use of her own Instagram account on Sunday, February 16, Maines put out a behind-the-scene video that captured a topless male contortionist dancing along to what sounds like the album’s title track. In the caption of the post, the 45-year-old singer wrote, “I’m gonna get in trouble for this, but that’s why you love me.”
“Gaslighter, you liar/ You had to start a fire, had to start a fire/ Couldn’t take yourself on a road a little higher/ Had to burn it up, had to tear it down/ Tried to say I’m crazy/ Babe, you know I’m not crazy/ But you gaslighted/ You’re a la-la-la-liar …,” Maines’ singing could be heard in the background of the video.
Maines’ original post was removed by Monday morning, but she uploaded a screenshot of the video hours later. Along with it, she wrote in the accompanying caption, “Ha! Like it never happened,” in addition to “gaslighter” and “soon” hashtags. Minutes later, she re-uploaded the video with a teasing caption that read, “Just kidding!”

Dixie Chicks’ official Instagram account, in the meantime, put out two photos with captions “#gaslighter” and “#dcx2020”. Both photos saw Maines along with bandmates Martie Erwin Maguire and Emily Erwin Robison sipping wine using striped straws. One captured them in white clothing, while the other one presented them in fiercer dark outfits.

The talks about Dixie Chicks’ comeback have been buzzing since June 2019. In September the same year, Maines got into the details of their upcoming records during an appearance on the “Spiritualgasm” podcast.
Among the topic Maines openly discussed was the inspiration for the album. “Songwriting is really hard for me, and I think for many years, I didn’t want to analyze my life or my relationship. I was just in it and dedicated and devoted, and if I had started writing songs about it,” she spilled. “I don’t want to say I was in a ‘survival mode,’ but I was just not ready to open up like that.”

Ozzy Osbourne Blames Health Treatments for Cancellation of 2020 North American Tour

    WENN/Avalon

Just days before the release of his comeback album ‘Ordinary Man’, the ‘Crazy Train’ rocker reasons that he doesn’t want ‘to start a tour and then cancel shows at the last minute.’
    Feb 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ozzy Osbourne has scrapped his 2020 North American dates so he can focus on his health.
Instead, the rock legend will head to Europe for “additional treatments” as he battles various health issues, including a form of Parkinson’s disease.
The news comes just days before the release of his comeback album, “Ordinary Man”.
“I’m so thankful that everyone has been patient because I’ve had a s**t year,” the “Crazy Train” singer, who cancelled his “No More Tours 2” dates in 2019 after a fall at his home dislodged metal rods in his back, says in a statement. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get to Switzerland for treatment until April and the treatment takes six-eight weeks.
“I don’t want to start a tour and then cancel shows at the last minute, as it’s just not fair to the fans. I’d rather they get a refund now and when I do the North American tour down the road, everyone who bought a ticket for these shows will be the first ones in line to purchase tickets at that time.”

Ne-Yo: 'Pinkie Ring' Is Not a Diss Track Against Estranged Wife

    WENN/FayesVision

While admitting that his split from the model was the inspiration behind the song, the ‘So Sick’ hitmaker stresses that it is more about the way he chose to handle their breakup.
    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ne-Yo used his split from wife Crystal Smith as inspiration for his new song “Pinkie Ring”.
The “So Sick” hitmaker, real name Shaffer Smith, tied the knot with model Crystal on February 20, 2016, weeks before welcoming their first child, son Shaffer Smith, Jr., and the couple went on to have another boy, Roman, in 2018.
It was reported by The Jasmine Brand last month (January 2020) that Crystal had called time on her marriage, and was planning to file for divorce.
And after confirming the reports for the first time on the latest episode of podcast “Private Talk with Alexis Texas”, Ne-Yo admitted he used the split as inspiration for his soon to be released track “Pinkie Ring”, and said that while he could have let the marriage breakup “really break me down”, he opted to “take it in stride and keep moving like we all have to do anyway”.
He added that while he was a “little angry” when he penned the tune, it’s in no way a diss track about Crystal.

“The song is not a diss to her; the song is not about her,” he continued. “The song is about the way I chose to handle the situation, the way I chose to lift myself up and keep moving as we all must do.”

Pongo Turns Her Struggles Into Pop

LISBON — At an intimate recent gig to celebrate the release of a new EP, the Angolan-Portuguese pop star Pongo’s karate-style kicks punctured the air.She high-kicks a lot. She can fire off dozens in a single song, followed by joyous twerks that send her sequined outfits sparkling.Pongo’s songs are a punchy, self-assured take on the musical style known as kuduro, blending frenetic African rhythms with blaring techno beats and rapping. And they are largely about overcoming the struggles she has endured as a young African woman trying to make it in Portugal’s music scene.Pongo originally broke through in Portugal in 2008, when she was just 15, rapping on the track “Kalemba (Wegue Wegue)” with the dance music collective Buraka Som Sistema. The song has had more than 11 million views on YouTube. But then Pongo left the group and years of setbacks followed. She wasn’t sure if she would get another shot.In an interview before the gig, Pongo, now 27, cited a famous church in Lisbon that took several centuries to complete, and with which she shares her real name, Engrácia. (Her last name is Silva).“There is a saying,” she said, laughing, “that when something is taking a long time, you say: ‘It’s like the Church of St. Engrácia.’ That’s like my career.”Her patience is now paying off. Pongo recently won the Music Moves Europe Talent Awards, a new prize for pop music in the European Union, which aims to celebrate “the European sound of today and tomorrow.” Her profile is growing around the Continent, particularly in France, where she is about to go on a national tour, and in Britain, where she will appear at festivals this summer.Pongo’s two most recent releases, including “Uwa,” the EP that came out on Feb. 7, aim to do for kuduro what the Spanish pop star Rosalía has done for flamenco. Rosalía brought Spanish-language songs to a wider audience and, likewise, Pongo eschews English and raps largely in Portuguese and in Kimbundu, a language spoken in Angola.Kuduro is an energetic trans-Atlantic clash of genres — including hip-hop, house, zouk and soca — and Pongo adds extra layers, blending them with current electronic styles and mixing in a contemporary pop flavor.Mário Lopes, a music journalist at Público, a daily newspaper in Portugal, said in an email exchange that Pongo was “approaching kuduro as an omnivorous rhythm,” which could explain why her music was connecting abroad. She was expanding the genre’s “sonic palette,” he added, by “incorporating other musical languages,” like “electronic sounds, or some Latin flourishes.”Pongo was eight when her family left Angola in the 1990s during a period of civil unrest there. In Portugal, her mother worked as a cleaner, her father in construction, and the family of five lived in a single room in a hostel for a year, she said. She shared a bed with her two sisters. When the family moved to a largely white area of northern Lisbon, they found integration difficult, Pongo said, adding that she experienced discrimination from her classmates in school. “It was difficult to have friends because they saw me as different, something strange,” she said.At home, her strict father wouldn’t allow Pongo and her sisters to have a social life, she said. Her life took an even darker turn when, at just 12, she threw herself out of a seventh-story window.“It was a mixture of everything: the difficulty of integration, the lack of friends to talk to and the dictatorship imposed by my father,” Pongo said. She escaped with only a broken leg, but the experience put her on a path toward music. To reach her physiotherapist across town, Pongo would get off at the train station in Queluz, a diverse neighborhood where many African immigrants lived. It was there that she saw the kuduro dance group Denon Squad performing on the street. When her injury healed, she began dancing with the group, then rapping. “It was through music that I realized that I wanted to live,” she said. Her participation in Denon Squad led to her discovery by Buraka Som Sistema, and she performed with the group for two years. But things turned sour, and there was a dispute over royalties for ‘Wegue Wegue,’ Pongo said. “After ‘Wegue’s success, they were very hard on me,” she said, adding, “I was so young that I couldn’t really understand what happened.” João Barbosa, a member of Buraka Som Sistema, said that Pongo had only ever been a guest vocalist, and that the group had decided to work with another singer, who was also a dancer.Pongo left and took menial jobs to support her sisters after her father walked out on the family, she said. Then, one day, she had an epiphany.“I was cleaning a house, and I heard ‘Wegue Wegue’ on the radio,” she said. “At that moment, I felt it was time to fight” for her career.Pongo’s reinvention as a solo artist came as other Lisbon musicians from Portuguese-speaking Africa were putting their roots front and center. The city’s scene features a unique postcolonial mesh of nationalities — Angolan, Guinean, Cape Verdean and Mozambican among them — and the music reflects that diversity.Dino D’Santiago, whose music riffs on the traditional funaná style from Cape Verde, said in a phone interview that, until recently, many Portuguese artists had tried to replicate the sound of American or French music. Now, he added, he was bringing in “ancestral sounds” from Africa, as were artists like Pongo and the singer Mayra Andrade. Two years ago, he added, this music would not have been played on mainstream radio in Portugal, only in nightclubs.Andrea Miranda, 28, was in the audience for the gig celebrating the release of Pongo’s record. She was pleased to see greater visibility for Afro-Portuguese artists. “I’m an African woman, and it’s important to see myself represented onstage,” she said, adding, “African women are underestimated, and when we do something good, we need to talk about it.”Pongo said people of all backgrounds attended her shows. “Even though I was with Buraka for a short time,” she said, “I understood that it’s not just about attracting big audiences, it’s about bringing people together, and joining communities, in order to break taboos, like racial prejudice.”“For me, that’s the most important thing,” she said. “When you feel music, you don’t see color.” More

Watch: Kanye West Treats Sunday Service Attendees in Chicago to Medley of Hits

Following his service in Miami and Los Angeles, the ‘Follow God’ rapper brings his weekly religious event to his hometown ahead of the 2020 NBA All-Star Game.
    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kanye West has given gospel treatment to many hit songs. Two weeks after bringing his Sunday Service to Miami for this year’s Super Bowl, the “Follow God” rapper returned to his hometown of Chicago, Illinois ahead of the 2020 NBA All-Star Game, and treated nearly 10,000 fans to his weekly religious event.
On Sunday afternoon, February 16, West’s choir, The Samples, kicked start the concert at the Credit Union 1 Arena at the University of Illinois Chicago almost an hour after its original 2 P.M. scheduled time. Congregating in the middle of the venue, they covered “Hallelujah”, “Closed on Sunday” and “Follow God”.
Appearing halfway through the show, the husband of Kim Kardashian delivered “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and “Selah”, a single from his 2019 album “Jesus is King”, while remixes of “Power”, “Father Stretch My Hands” and “Fade” were also performed. His choir also transformed such songs as A$AP Ferg’s “New Level”, Soul II Soul’s 1989 hit “Back to Life” and Maze & Frankie Beverly’s 1977 song “Before I Let Go” into God-praising anthem.
At the event, West addressed criticism from haters who doubt his newfound relationship with God. “I’m not here to perform for y’all. I don’t do performances. I’m only here to tell you what saved my life and brought my mind back,” he told attendees. “I’m not saying that when you get delivered and when you get saved that life becomes easy, but you get to lean on a rock that won’t ever fail you.”
The “Stronger” rapper additionally shared his thought on healing through God. “With God on your side, everything is possible. With God on your side, everything is probable and nothing is impossible. That’s the gospel,” he gushed.

The two-hour Sunday concert was West’s second time bringing his Sunday Service to his hometown. Back in September 2019, he hosted the spiritual get together at Huntington Bank Pavilion, and treated attendees with a special performance by Chance the Rapper who joined the choir to tackle “Ultralight Beam”.

    Artist of the Week: Eminem

The Detroit rapper’s talent as a lyricist is strongly evident in many of his songs, and he even has a quick, clean and smooth delivery that many other rappers don’t.
    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Eminem truly has a big impact in the rap industry, and it’s not even surprising by this point considering how talented he is. His talent as a lyricist is strongly evident in many of his songs, and he even has a quick, clean and smooth delivery as well as a dexterity and flow that many other rappers don’t. Such example can be seen in his hit “Rap God” and “Godzilla”, the latter of which is included his latest album “Music to Be Murdered By”.
Speaking of “Music to Be Murdered By”, the album has reminded people once again how good he is in selling his music. Even though the record literally had no prior announcement nor a promotion, it could still rule the Billboard 200 with impressive number of sales. It helped Em become the first artist to have ten consecutive albums debut at No. 1 in the United States and one of the six artists to have released at least ten No. 1 albums.
His new album wasn’t the only thing that got a lot of people talking about him recently. More than a decade after he won Best Original Song for “Lose Yourself” at the Oscars, he finally performed the song at the annual event for the first time during the 2020 ceremony earlier this month. His set successfully surprised many people, prompting him to go trending on social media.
Not only that, but the surprise performance also spurred a big sales gain for “Lose Yourself”. Days after the performance, the “8 Mile” soundtrack sold 4,000 downloads in the United States while his entire catalog of music sold a combined 7,000 downloads. This, once again, proved how big Em is in the music industry in general and how much influence he brought in the game.

Drake Faces Lawsuit From Tour Stage Designer Over Unpaid Services

    Instagram

Design company Sila Sveta claims the ‘Hotline Bling’ rapper owes the company $108,000 for the creation of the 3D visual elements for his 2018 Aubrey & the Three Migos Tour.
    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drake is facing a $108,000 lawsuit from the designers of the hi-tech stage he used during his 2018 “Aubrey & the Three Migos Tour” over claims he never paid for the set-up.
According to design company Sila Sveta, they were hired by “Hotline Bling” rapper to create 3D visual elements for the stage to play behind and with Drake while he performed during the joint trek with Migos.
However, while they claim to have gone above and beyond to make sure it was perfect for the rapper, they have insisted they’ve not been paid for their services.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the company is owed $108,000, which amassed after Drake, “delayed the dates of the tour (requiring Sila Sveta staff to work of additional days)” and, “radically changed the configuration, size, and shape of the screens on which the video content was to be played four times”.
Company officials say they completed the work but after sending the invoice for the added amount of extra work done, Drake’s team refused to pay the $108,000.
They continued: “Our main task was to create a visual design for Drake’s tracks using all the sorts of 3D visuals. We worked on the project for three months, creating a huge, stage-sized scorpion, multi-coloured palm trees, an iPhone X home screen, the performer’s holographic projection, a basketball court, and photorealistic volumetric lava to share the stage with Drake.”
“The show used a lot of visual effects. Among them were lasers, CO2 effects, a flying Ferrari, and 200 flying drones that created volumetric figures above the artist.”
The company filed the papers in Los Angeles County Court, to which Drake has yet to respond.
