Dan Walker says Naga Munchetty 'won't have time for golf' in career move swipe

Dan Walker wished his colleague Naga Munchetty well in her move to BBC Radio 5 – but couldn’t resist taking a swipe at her busy lifestyle.

The BBC Breakfast presenter will continue to appear on the morning news show just three days a week as she divides her time between radio and television.

However, Dan, 43, quipped that she will no longer have time to “play golf” as he reacted to news of Naga’s exciting career move.

Naga, 45, will be taking over from Emma Barnett on Radio 5 Live, waking up the nation from Mondays to Wednesdays.

For the remainder of the week, the broadcaster will return to the red sofa of BBC Breakfast, alongside co-hosts Dan, Louise Minchin and Charlie Stayt.

Discussing her new gig, Dan playfully suggested Naga would have no time for fun, telling Express.co.uk : “I’m not sure how she’s going to fit golf in. You can tell she’s not got any children.”

He went on: “We’re always on the phone or texting each other. We’re both golf obsessed so we play a bit of golf.”

Proud golf-fanatic Naga previously admitted she found the lockdown difficult, as she wasn’t allowed to make her weekly trip to the fairway.

Opening up about her love of the sport, Naga told The Guardian earlier this year: “I started 11 years ago, although for a long time I refused – I used to say it was a posh person’s game.

“But then my five rounds a week used to keep me very busy.”

Golf jibes aside, Dan was delighted for his colleague in her move to radio, as he commended her flair for interviewing and her ability to cover each and every subject in depth.

He told the publication: “I heard Naga on the radio when she was sitting in for it and she was so good and so comfortable,” he commented.

“I think if you do the Breakfast job you have to be across everything.

“From news to light entertainment to sport and everything in between. And Naga is so across all that stuff.”

He added: “She’s so capable of doing that job I think that she’ll be brilliant.

“She’s going to be a busy, busy old bee.”
