Gavin and Stacey creator Ruth Jones has announced there are no plans to start writing new material for the award-winning BBC series.
The 53-year-old actress appeared on ITV daytime show This Morning on Friday to discuss her second novel Us Three, which explores female friendship, but conversation quickly turned to Gavin and Stacey.
After the 2019 festive episode, fans have been desperate to see more from the leading couple, played by Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, and their best mates Nessa and Smithy, played by writers Ruth and James Corden.
Speaking to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford about the potential of Gavin and Stacey returning to our screens, Ruth said: “There aren’t any plans to write anything.
“Obviously James [Corden] is in America and I’m in Wales.
“The joy of our last special is that if we never go back to Barry, we’ll always wonder what happened next.”
She added: “I quite like leaving it hanging. I’m sorry I don’t have any better news.”
This Morning fans were left gutted after hearing Ruth’s Gavin and Stacey update.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Ruth Jones…..No No No! We need another episode of Gavin and Stacey as soon as possible…..please, please, please!”
Another added: “Ruth Jones just said there’s no plans for new Gavin and Stacey. Really playing with my heart here man.”
A third person said: “Vanessa Shanessa Jenkins has just confirmed on This Morning there isn’t any plans for more Gavin and Stacey and it has absolutely ruined my Friday.”

Director of TV at the BBC, Charlotte Moore said a Christmas special “wasn’t something that was going to happen this year”, before adding “one day”.
Ruth and her Gavin and Stacey co-writer James have hinted about the BBC series’ future back in April.
Chatting to Metro about the incredible success of the Christmas special, which was watched by 18.5million people, they said: “It’s mind-blowing that so many people watched our show – we still can’t get our heads around it, what a massive compliment.
“We are indebted to the BBC for their incredible support but most importantly to those 18.5 million viewers for watching.
“We just hope one day we can let them know what Smithy said next.”
The Director of BBC Content Charlotte Moore added: “These incredible viewing figures demonstrate the power of British comedy and the love for Gavin and Stacey.
“I want to thank James and Ruth for this gem and like everyone I’m longing to find out what happens next.”
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
