Rita Ora faces could be 'stranded in Bulgaria' over Christmas as borders close

Rita Ora is facing an uncertain week after escaping Blighty in favour of Bulgaria.

The songstress is currently in the European country but faces spending more time there, after flights from the country back to the UK have been suspended until January 31 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Rita, 30, is believed to have flown to the idyllic country after facing backlash when it was revealed she had flouted the coronavirus lockdown rules on more than one occasion.

The I Will Never Let You Down singer ruffled feathers when it came to light she had hosted a party for a number of friends to celebrate her birthday at a swanky London restaurant.

It later emerged that Rita had returned to London after a private gig in Egypt and failed to isolate following her trip, despite government guidance.

Sources claim that Rita jetted to Bulgaria in order to film a music video without receiving attention.

“It hit her hard because she knew she had made mistakes but wanted to be clear how remorseful she was and then head away to stay out of the limelight for a bit,” a source told The Sun.

The insider added: “Bulgaria is a far cry from London and meant she could film a video for her new music without attracting too much attention, which is the last thing she wants right now.

“But things have changed fast and she faces the prospect of being stuck for God knows how long.

Initially, the Bulgarian health ministry decided to impose a 10-day obligatory quarantine to all people arriving from the United Kingdom, but following a meeting, the government opted to temporarily suspend flights.

Rita’s trip comes after she was forced to issue a grovelling apology and pay a fine of £10,000 for breaching the law over the imposed lockdown in the UK.

Addressing her rule-breaking, the singer said: “I attended a small gathering with some friends to celebrate my 30th birthday. It was a spur of the moment decision made with the misguided view that we were coming out of lockdown and this would be OK…

“I’m deeply sorry for breaking the rules and in turn, understand that this puts people at risk. This was a serious and inexcusable error of judgement. Given the restrictions, I realise how irresponsible these actions were and I take full responsibility.”

Daily Star has approached a spokesperson for Rita Ora for comment.
