BGT fans baffled as Simon Cowell makes filming blunder in ITV first

Britain’s Got Talent was back on our screens this evening and the 40 semi-finalists were finally revealed.

Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams rewatched auditions from earlier on in the series and whittled hundreds of hopefuls down ahead of the semi-finals.

ITV viewers were gobsmacked as the judges appeared to personally tell contestants they had made it through to the next round by calling their phones.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “So the acts were given a phone call to say if their through or not instead of everyone being there in Person (bearing in mind this was filmed back in February) Very Strange.”

BGT boss Simon Cowell rang contestants this year, rather than reaching out in person

Another added: “They used to get all the acts together for the reveal – and this is pre lockdown?”

While a third said: “It looks like the judges are gonna phone the acts instead of them coming to the building. then again, this was filmed before the pandemic?”

A fourth joked: “Bet that’s a very expensive phone bill.”

In previous years, Simon, Amanda, Alesha and David told contestants if they made it through face-to-face in big groups, but it was all changed this evening – despite the scenes being filmed before lockdown.

David, Alesha, Amanda and Simon called contestants to tell them they made it through by calling them instead of their usual face-to-face reveal

It wasn’t the only issue fans had with tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent highlights show.

As the judges were seen whittling potential winners down from 200 to 40, viewers realised the show had been off their screens for so long they couldn’t remember the acts.

One fan tweeted: “Forgot who was even on it its been that long.”

“Nope! Still don’t remember the acts so far!!!” said another.

Contestants were thrilled to hear Simon on the other end of the line

“I’ve literally forgotten everyone who was on the show,” a third tweeted.

While some moaned about the show, others were delighted to have the popular talent show back on their screens.

“One fan penned: Good to have BGT back..”

“I have really missed you BGT welcome back,” said another.

This series of Britain’s Got Talent had to be halted abruptly when it was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
