Caroline Flack inquest hears tragic Love Island star was found hanged at London home

Love Island presenter Caroline Flack was found hanged in her home, an inquest into the star’s death has heard.

The TV star, 40, was found dead at her home in Stoke Newington on Saturday 15 February after taking her own life.

An inquest into her death was opened at Poplar Coroners’ Court, London, this morning.

The court heard police were flagged down in the street and arrived to find the TV star lying on her back.

The court adjourned the full hearing until August 5.

Her body was identified by her twin sister, Jody Flack.

Coroner’s officer Sandra Polson said police were driving through Northwold Road, Stoke Newington, on Saturday February 15 when they were flagged down.

She said Ms Flack was “found lying on her back, she had apparently been found hanging”.

Police attempted resuscitation, which was then continued by paramedics, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Caroline stood down from her Love Island presenting duties following an alleged altercation with boyfriend Lewis Burton at her Islington home in December. She was arrested and charged with assault by beating.

During her court hearing, held at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on 23 December, she entered a not guilty plea and was released on bail, with conditions that banned her having any contact – or seeing –Burton before the trial.

News from the inquest comes just hours after Caroline’s devastated family released an unpublished statement the star wrote following her alleged incident with boyfriend Lewis Burton.

Her mum Christine shared Caroline’s final words with the Eastern Daily Press, after her advisers told her not to post the message.

During the heartfelt monologue, she said her arrest for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend meant “within 24 hours my whole world and future was swept from under my feet and all the walls that I had taken so long to build around me, collapsed”.

Elsewhere in the personal note, Caroline insisted she “took responsibility for what happened that night” but said it had been an accident and she “was not a domestic abuser”.
