DOI's Alex Demetriou says ex-wife was 'jealous' of Maura Higgins before split

Dancing On Ice star Alex Demetriou has hinted that jealously was one of the reasons his marriage with stunner Carlotta Edwards collapsed.

The professional ice skater and Canadian staking pro Carlotta, 29, tied the knot in 2016 – but they split last year after rumours circulated that he was having romantic relations with his Dancing on Ice contestant and model Maura Higgins – which they both heavily denied.

In an interview Alex has now claimed that Carlotta, who is also a star on Dancing On Ice, was jealous of his friendship with the 28-year-old Irish bombshell.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Alex said: “I think Carlotta found it hard to see me close, yet so professional, with Maura. It had an impact on her.

“I told Carlotta we needed a break but I knew it was for good. I didn’t want to lead her on any more.

“She was shocked at how serious it was. I’m not going to lie — it was my decision. Clearly she was very upset.”

Alex also told how he is just friends with Maura and claimed that growing close to contestants on the show is what typically happens on Dancing On Ice.

And he insisted they wouldn’t be able to complete dare devil ice skating stunts without a certain level of trust.

He went on to say he struggled to see Carlotta very during the course of their intensive three month training sessions ahead of the DOI live shows in January – because of their intense schedules.

Alex said that he had therapy sessions for depression last year, which led to him realise that his future with Carlotta was over – because they wanted different things.

Maura has firmly denied rumours she ever had a romantic relationship with Alex.

She said in March that the pair were “very close friends and we get on well”, adding “We have such a laugh, and we’re still going to be friend”s.

Carlotta Edwards has been contacted by Daily Star Online for comment.
