EastEnders Martin Kemp spots Linda and Mick blunder in 35th anniversary episode

Martin Kemp has spoken out on his thoughts on the dramatic EastEnders episodes which have been airing this week to mark the BBC One soap’s 35th anniversary.

The soap legend, 58, who played Steve Owen on the show, has said he spotted a blunder during the episode which saw Mick Carter trying to save his wife Linda Carter.

Martin critiqued that Mick should have been able to pull Linda’s leg out after it was trapped under a shelf on the sinking ship.

Dramatic scenes saw the shelf full on Linda as the character who has been battling an alcohol addiction tried to reach a bottle of wine.

The shelf collapsed as the boat began to sink on the River Thames, but aside from the blunder, Martin said he has been “enjoying” the episodes.

Speaking to The Sun, Martin said: “The Titanic moment.

“Yeah I watched it the other night. ‘No love no, get your foot out, you’re stuck! I’m never gonna leave ya!’

“As they were going down and the water was coming up… I couldn’t work out why he wasn’t pulling the top [of the shelf] and bashing it open!”

Martin continued by telling the publication it was a “good moment” and was “shot well”.

He said: “It was a good moment and they’ve gone to a lot of trouble, EastEnders, to go down and film in Shepperton tank, that they shot it in.

“And I love seeing EastEnders put effort into it because that’s when it’s at its best.”

As the episode aired, fans also shared Martin’s reaction and rushed to Twitter at the time to suggest that Mick “could have just moved her leg to the right” to free her.

One wrote: “Slide her leg to the right and she’d be free…just saying.”

A second tweeted: “Linda just needed to slide her foot along to the very obvious, wide enough gap between the leg of the counter and the fridge that’s underneath it.”

A third said: “Quite sure Mick could’ve just pulled Linda’s leg out.”

EastEnders airs tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
