Elon Musk casually revealed that partner Grimes had given birth yesterday in a response to a fan on Twitter.
And what made the news even more surprising, was the unusual name they’ve chosen to give their newborn son.
The tot, whose first picture to the world saw him covered in tattoos using an Instagram filter, is called X Æ A-12.
TMZ has reported that despite the pair being able to call their child whatever they want, by law they are not allowed to put X Æ A-12 on the little one’s birth certificate.
A supervisor at the Department of Public Health Vital Records Office, Los Angeles, reportedly told the publication it is illegal to include numbers or symbols on a birth certificate in the star of California.
The law states names must only include the 26 letters of the alphabet and no diacritical marks or symbols are allowed on the paperwork.
This means that X Æ A-12 does not meet the criteria.
When news of the baby name was revealed, Twitter users took to their social media site in their droves to share their confusion over how to pronounce it.
Some were convinced the name was pronounced as “X Ash Archangel” in reference to a Lockheed aircraft that is nicknamed Archangel.
On Twitter, one fan mused: “How do you pronounce that even like you can’t just go “come here X AE A-12″ like is it pronounced John or smth you can’t just hide this.”

A second added: “Never mind how X Æ A-12 is pronounced, the real question is does he need an art therapist.”
“Can one enlighten me on how you would actually pronounce X Æ A-12,” chimed a third.
X Æ A-12 is the couple’s first child together, though Elon has five other children from a previous marriage – twins Griffin and Xavier and triplets Damian, Saxon and Kai.
