Speaking on today’s instalment of Good Morning Britain, Dr Hilary Jones had a few words of warning for those hoping to board a plane in the coming weeks.
The GMB doc, 66, insisted he would “absolutely” avoid air travel, despite airlines increasing the number of flights each day.
Travel expert Simon Calder appeared on the show via video call, talking hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid through his morning as he boarded an EasyJet flight from Gatwick airport.
Scanning the flight with his camera, Simon revealed the plane was quite crowded, with many Brits braving air travel after months of isolation.
Dr Hilary made it clear he still has a few reservations about flying, as he said: “I just think that the air travel situation is running big risks.

“People sitting closely together in close proximity, breathing the same air, masks or not, tests or not, screening with temperatures really not very effective.”
Digging for answers, Piers asked: “Would you fly right now?”
The ITV doc replied: “No absolutely not.”

Dr Hilary claimed aircraft’s air filters pose a threat, as he explained: “The risk of picking up the infection is probably not reduced but the risk of transmitting the infection if you’ve got coronavirus.
“You can’t rely on the filtration system on an aircraft either.”
Simon opened up about his experience on the flight, saying: “As you can see it’s absolutely crowded and everybody’s wearing masks. The hope is that if we all carry on wearing masks then we’ll all be able to stay safe.”

However, the travel expert also made an effort to warn viewers, adding: “It’s your choice, they’re doing everything they can.”
Simon continued: “They’ve got highly efficient particulate air filters so the air is coming down here, going straight into the floor, they say, so therefore if anybody has any coughs or sneezes, it’s not going to affect me. That’s the theory.
“But are you going to be taking a risk? Of course, you are.”
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
