Piers Morgan made it clear he wasn’t impressed by the idea of a rumoured pub “curfew” as the government confirms the arrival of the second wave of coronavirus.
The 55-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter took to Twitter on Monday to poke a hole in the potential curfew, insisting it would make no difference in the fight against Covid.
Earlier in the day, it was revealed the UK was at a “critical point” with the virus, as the government rushes to bring in new lockdown measures.
One rumoured measure, said to be proposed by Boris Johnson ‘s government, is to enforce the closure of bars and restaurants at 10pm each evening.
Piers knocked the potential curfew, saying: ‘Hearing @BorisJohnson is going to order pubs to close at 10pm from tomorrow.

“What possible difference is that going to make? Does he think Covid respects opening hours?”
One user argued in defence of the rumoured curfew, saying: “It reduces the size of the ‘window’ in which you might get infected in the pub with, perhaps, an optimistic side order of reducing drunkenness too…”
However, Piers drew from personal experience to reply: “Speaking as someone who grew up in a pub, I imagine this will just make people drink more, faster.”

The PM is set to make a Commons speech on Tuesday, where he is expected to outline new restrictions to help fight against the spread of Covid.
According to The Sun, curfews in the hospitality industry and more strict enforcement for boozers breaking the rules could be on the horizon.
On Monday, it was confirmed the UK has moved from a level three to level four, meaning transmission rates are “high or rising exponentially”.

Since the lockdown first began in March, Piers has been outspoken about the measures taken by the government to fight the deadly virus, suggesting stricter rules should be implemented to protect the nation.
Speaking on GMB on Monday, he alluded to the social distancing restrictions, saying: “The virus does not understand the rule of six.”
Then, suggesting the virus would be rife this Christmastime, he added: “The virus won’t take a day off on Christmas day.”
Urging viewers to be responsible, Piers declared: “This is our war.”
