Noel Gallagher's ex-wife Meg Mathews 'suffered PTSD' after breakdown of marriage

Meg Mathews revealed that she struggled with “terrible PTSD” after her marriage to Noel Gallagher broke down in the public eye.

The 54-year-old Primrose Hill Set socialite was married to the Oasis star between 1997 and 2001.

She has now said she suffered with “severe anxiety” after her divorce made headlines.

Meg commented: “I came through the marriage, everything was public. At the end of the day I did not have the cog or the PR world that that person [Noel] had.

“I was just the ex-wife, I had nobody. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t have a press agent, wasn’t famous, I just had a daughter.”

She continued to tell The Mirror: “I used to get terrible PTSD. In 1997 I was the third most written about woman. It was Lady Diana, The Spice Girls and me.”

PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by a traumatic event which can cause flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety.

Earlier this week, Meg admitted she would regularly spend £4,000 a night on drugs and alcohol when she was married to Noel.

She told The Sun: “Everybody would be in the room, drinking all the mini bar, calling loads of dealers – £3,000 later walking down the stairs with the mascara running down my face, a heel broken off my shoe and going home for what?

‘It would be £4,000 later. And for what? The walk of shame. But by the end you don’t care.”

The former party girl continued: “I was maybe a bit aggressive. I was not the nicest. I was not a happy bunny. Always blackouts.”

Meg is currently a vocal advocate of women with menopause being given flexible working hours after she began her menopause at 49.

She experienced night sweats and crippling anxiety that at one stage made her reluctant to leave her house.
