Rebekah Vardy's Wagatha Christie war with Coleen Rooney 'to be Netflix series'

Netflix is set to make an OJ trial-style mini-series about Rebekah Vardy ‘s Wagatha Christie legal battle with Coleen Rooney.

TV channel chiefs have admitted they will be watching the saga play out in the High Court.

The broadcaster had huge success with its 2016 reconstruction of the OJ Simpson murder trial.

Execs believe they could give the WAG war similar treatment to land another smash.

The wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is suing Coleen, whose husband is England and Manchester United’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney, for £1million in damages.

She claims Coleen libelled her when she publicly accused her on social media of flogging stories about her private life.

In a move straight out of a whodunnit Coleen claimed she set a trap by deliberately posting a false tale on her private Instagram account to which only her fellow WAG would have had access – and it was later published.

Rebekah vehemently denies she was the culprit and has lodged papers with the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court which is set to air the spat in public.

After a court list showing the time and date of a preliminary hearing was posted on Twitter the official Netflix UK & Ireland account posted an emoji of a pair of watching eyes.

One follower wrote: “@NetflixUK get ready! Can’t wait to watch this.”

Another replied: “1st you had OJ Simpson vs the people (sic), now we can look forward to snakes of Cheshire.”

While a third added: “Real life footballers’ wives.”

The People Vs O.J Simpson, which starred John Travolta, Cuba Gooding Jnr and David Schwimmer, attracted a TV audience of 70 million to its 10 episodes reconstructing the 1994 murders of the American footballers’ ex-wife Nicole and her waiter pal Ron Goldman.

It won nine Emmys, two Golden Globes and a Bafta.

Yesterday (sun) it was reported Coleen, 34, had tried to halt the proceedings believing a costly court case would be in bad taste at a time when coronavirus has left many people struggling financially.

She has ditched plans to counter-sue Rebekah, 38, for breach of privacy.

But Rebekah still plans to push ahead with her defamation fight even though it could cost each of them more than £500,000.

Last month the pair failed to reach an agreement during a video conference alongside their lawyers.
