The Chase host Bradley Walsh was left impressed tonight when university student Aislinn stepped up to the plate.
Branding her as the “best young player we’ve had on this show in a long, long while,” Aislinn’s quiz skills left an impression in the ITV studios.
However, The Chase viewers had a bone to pick with host Bradley, after he permitted an “incorrect” answer to go through.
Aislinn revealed she was hoping to earn enough dosh to take her mum to Monaco, celebrating the Formula One Grand Prix.
With hopes to “go and sit on a yacht or something and sip some champagne,” the 19-year-old squared up for the first round of the quiz show.
In the cash builder round, Bradley asked the teenager which food was typically paired with cheese on a stick during retro dinner parties.
Aislinn immediately answered “olive,” to which Brad replied: “Wrong, it’s pineapple.”
The teenage student managed to earn a whopping £6,000 in the cash builder round, leaving her teammates impressed.
However, Aislinn was in for a surprise when Bradley said: “Very good, £6000.”
Before adding: “However, I’m going to accept your answer of olive.”
Taking to Twitter, The Chase fans were left baffled over Bradley’s decision, as they insisted “olive” was an incorrect answer.
One fumed: “I don’t understand why he is giving her ‘olive’ – the traditional, cliché snack is cheese and pineapple, which is surely what the question was driving at…”
A second agreed: “How did they accept olive? Pineapple and pickles yes but olives??”
While a third chimed: “Olives and cheese on a stick??? WTAF…..”
“Why are they accepting olive? I’ve never heard anything so wrong in my life… No one knowingly ate an olive in England before the millennium. #thechase” wondered the fourth.
The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
