The Chase ‘s Mark Labbett is known for his biting one-liners, and this evening’s quiz-a-thon was no exception.
The Beast accused presenter Bradley Walsh of “clutching at straws” when he desperately attempted to defend one contestant’s answers.
In a savage swipe, Mark silenced the witty presenter as he leapt to a player’s defence in the second round.
Pat appeared on the show, hoping to earn enough dosh for some fancy boating equipment for her fishmonger hubby.
After a nervy cash builder round, the Devonshire player managed to rack up £3,000 as she accepted Mark’s middle offer.
However, one question threw her completely, as Brad quizzed the duo about the wild animals native to the US.
He asked: “What is the heaviest land animal in North America?”
Three answers were listed below the tricky question – Caribou, grizzly bear and wood bison.
Completely lost for the correct answer, Pat opted for option B – Grizzly bear – hoping for a stroke of good luck.
However, Mark’s general knowledge prevailed, as he correctly opted for option C, Wood Bison.
While Mark started to scoff at Pat’s wrong answer, Brad leapt to her defence and pointed out that certain bears can weigh a tonne.
Rolling his eyes, Mark pointed at Brad and shouted: “Clutching at straws! Next question.”
Brad looked offended by Mark’s blunt interruption, but followed his demand, and moved on to a question about Frankenstein.
Unfortunately, Pat’s luck ran out in the following moments, as a question about Geri Halliwell’s hit single, “It’s Raining Men,” kicked her out of the competition.
Letting Mark know she was devastated by the defeat, Pat remarked: “I shan’t sleep tonight after that.”
The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
