During Monday’s episode of This Morning, celebrity chef James Martin appeared via video link to explain his fish finger sandwich recipe.
But this wasn’t your standard Birdseye fish fingers between two slices of white bread, James was making huge home-battered fish fingers in a slightly posher brioche bun.
The cook even made his own lemon mayonnaise, pouring an entire bottle of oil into a blender while hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes tucked into his creations.
And while Ruth and Eamonn seemed to be enjoying their meals, viewers weren’t having any of it.
One tweeted: “All this for a fish finger sandwich? FFS just get some frozen ones from Asda and some Hellman’s mayo and a loaf of bread. Banging, you’ve saved four hours.”

Another wrote: “The people who make this have too much time on their hands, I mean who are you serving this to?”
A third said: “A fish finger sandwich has no business being made from brioche. Cheap white bread is the only way to go.”
Another This Morning viewer commented: “Spending another 20 quid for a f***ing fish finger butty.”

While a fifth added: “You can buy fish fingers, you can buy mayonnaise. Nobody will ever make this.”
James served up the posh brioche sandwich for Ruth, while he gave Eamonn normal white bread slices after he moaned about the more luxurious changes.
He held up his creations and said: “This one is like Ruth – sweet, refined and delicate, whereas this one is like Eamonn – chunky and a little bit thick.”
Ruth laughed but said: “If there’s one thing about Eamonn, is he’s not thick.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Ruth and Eamonn spoke to the “world’s most identical twins” Lucy and Anna De Cinque, who joined via video link in Australia.
They spoke of their plans to get pregnant at the same time with their shared boyfriend Ben.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
