Jackpot winner Donald Fear celebrated his Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? win with a caravan holiday in Whitley Bay.
The 57-year-old has now quit his job as a teacher but claims the only thing he wants to splash out on is a motorhome.
He said: “I used to say if I had a million pounds, I wouldn’t have a clue how to spend it!
“I could buy an Aston Martin. I could get into the thing, but I could never get out of it. I’m fat!”
Down-to-earth dad-of-four Donald became the ITV show’s seventh millionaire last night. The last top prize winner was in 2006.
Host Jeremy Clarkson was so stunned by his knowledge, he quipped: “It’s like sitting next to the internet.”
The whizz even left the show having used up only one of his lifelines – the 50-50.
Donald said: “I was lucky. I didn’t have questions like: ‘What is Richard Gere’s middle name?’ A quiz is very easy if you know the answers and I did.
“It was only when that tinsel came down that I was amazed and aghast at what I had just achieved.”
The show was pre-recorded last month and Donald had to keep quiet about his victory, but took wife Deb to the north east for a break the day after filming. They had planned a trip through Europe this year but Covid-19 meant they had to abandon that.
Looking forward to buying his motorhome, he said: “I’ve never had one! So I’m afraid a motorhome in Wales is what I am going to spend my million pounds on. The only thing you could spend that amount of money on is moving house but I’m very
happy with our house and we’ve been here 27 years so why move somewhere else?”
Donald, of Telford, Shrops, has resigned from Haberdashers’ Adams School, Newport – where Jeremy Corbyn was a student.
He will leave at the end of the year and added: “I never investigated the possibility about not going back at all – how unfair would that have been to my A-level students? That would be totally letting them down.”
His family are no strangers to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? as his elder brother Davyth won £500,000 last year.
He joked: “We have had sibling rivalry all our lives but he is so pleased for me. He’s a lot cleverer than I am but I was luckier with the questions.”
