Amanda Holden appears to confirm 'dream' presenting gig for Blind Date reboot

Amanda Holden has given her biggest indication yet that she is the new presenter for the reboot of the show Blind Date.

Thirty years after the Britain’s Got Talent judge made her debut on the show in 1991 as a contestant, rumours began circulating that Amanda will be the host of the reboot.

And the 50-year-old has now appeared to confirm that she will be filling original host Cilla Black’s shoes as she helps single folk find their perfect partner.

During a chat with Woman’s Own magazine, Amanda revealed it’s “always been a dream of mine to have my own dating show” and announced that she is excited to be “working on something special with the BBC at the moment”.

It comes after a source close to the production told the Daily Star Sunday last month that bosses are “thrilled” to have Amanda onboard.

The source said: “Execs are thrilled to have Amanda on board.

“She is perfect for a dating show because she has a great sense of humour.

“Everyone working on the show thinks she has the potential to be just like Cilla was years ago on Blind Date.

“There’s a lot of excitement about this.”

To spice the show up, it is taking on a new format which will see the single ladies pick from a line-up of potential lovers.

Sadly for those who are rejected there is a very brutal send-off which will see them fall through a trap door.

Blind Date was one of TV’s most popular shows during its 18 years on ITV.

So Channel 5 hoped it would still be a hit when they revived it in 2017, with Paul O’Grady replacing the late Cilla Black as host.

But by the summer of 2019, after being on air for two years, the show was being watched by fewer than a million viewers.

A TV insider told Daily Star Online: “After a number of series on Channel 5, it’s been decided that it’s time to ditch it.

“Execs loved reviving such an iconic show, but it hasn’t gone as well as they hoped. Everyone involved is sad to see it go.”

Our source added: “No-one was expecting the show to pull in the figures it did in the 90s.

“But less than a million is just not enough to warrant another series.

“Channel 5 bosses are quite keen to focus on documentaries rather than expensive entertainment formats that just aren’t popular enough.”
