BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker in stitches over Autumnwatch live camera gaffe

BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker saw the funny side when Autumnwatch livestream cameras didn’t show anything at all, as they talked to Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan.

The presenters were talking to Dan and Sally Nugent about the new series of Autumnwatch that starts on Tuesday evening, and Sally praised their wildlife cameras, and asked what viewers might see.

Chris and Michaela started to talk about the different views, as Dan and Sally said the cameras were being shown live.

“Those live cameras are normally a real treat, aren’t they?,” asked Sally.

Michaela said her favourite camera focused on beavers, but said anything could happen.

She added: “We’ve got bats and we’ve got otters, but that’s the thing. We don’t write the scripts, the animals do their thing! Hopefully we’ll capture some of it.”

Dan Walker then laughed as the cameras on screen weren’t very exciting.

“We’ve currently got all nine live cameras up and there’s absolutely nothing happening on any of them!” he remarked as the livestreams all remained empty.

He roared with laughter as Chris replied: “Oh, thanks Dan! Thanks!” and Michaela repeated that it’s up to the animals.

Chris joked: “When we’ve finished here Michaela will be there putting down all the peanuts that we can find, fish for the Otters, fresh bark for the beavers, we’ll do everything that we can to guarantee that they turn up now

“I mean, it is early in the morning, and it is quite chilly here at the moment but hose species will I’m sure be showing up at some point during the day,” he insisted.

“As I say we’re not just filming here, though we have got cameras in other parts of the country, but we’re confident as ever that the wildlife won’t let us down” finished Chris.

Michaela insisted: “A lot of them are nocturnal too!”

Dan apologised, saying: “I just found it quite amusing talking about these amazing live cameras, and there wasn’t much going on. But I know Autumnwatch always delivers!”

The new series of Autumnwatch starts Tuesday night at 8pm on BBC 2.
