Elinor Lawless is no stranger to a medical emergency – something which might come in handy as she joins the cast of Casualty.
The 39-year-old actress is set to become the latest addition to the medical team at Holby City Hospital – but all isn’t as it seems with the character.
Irish-born Elinor, who hails from Draperstown, County Derry, will join the emergency department as new consultant Stevie.
The medical professional is set to cause havoc as she seeks revenge on her new colleagues for a secret from her past.
Elinor joins the cast as they get ready to celebrate the 35th year of the hospital-based drama being broadcast on our screens.
She says she is hoping to use the role as a way of paying tribute to the teams of doctors and nurses who helped her through her own childhood health problems.
When she was just three years old doctors found a hole in her heart and Elinor was diagnosed with anomalous pulmonary venous drainage.
The dangerous condition causes blood to flow through the heart in the wrong direction.
She eventually had open-heart surgery at the age of seven which helped her fully recover from the diagnosis.
Elinor has previously starred in EastEnders back in 2019 where she played the role of the Independent Sexual Violence Advisor assigned to help main cast character Ruby Allen through her tragic rape ordeal and subsequent court case.
Her husband, Peter Basham, also appeared in EastEnders in 2019 as PC Anthony Rogers.
The couple have one child, a four-year-old son, Joe. They regularly share snaps with their treasured little boy on their social media pages.
Elinor has also previously secured roles in Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators and Doctors.
Peter meanwhile has had small roles in the box office hit James Bond movie Skyfall and detective series Sherlock.
He also worked alongside Peaky Blinders icon Cillian Murphy in his hit movie Inception.
Peter played the part of Jet Captain to Cillian’s lead character Robert Fischer.
