British rock band Coldplay confirmed on Twitter that they will collaborate with chart-topping K-pop group BTS for a two-track album to be released on September 24.
The iconic British band announced the news to their 23million followers, tweeting: “#MyUniverse // Coldplay X BTS // September 24th // Pre-order & pre-save now.”
BTS also announced the news on the social media platform: “It’s confirmed, it’s official, English and Korean. Collab of the century.”
The new track titled My Universe was co-written by the groups and produced by Swedish songwriter and producer Max Martin, who has worked with acts including Britney Spears and Taylor Swift.
Coldplay said on their website: “The band has today announced their much-anticipated collaboration with BTS.
“My Universe will be released on September 24th. The track, sung in both Korean and English, was written by Coldplay and BTS and produced by Max Martin.”
The announcement continued: “My Universe is the second single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming album Music of the Spheres.”
The announcement was preceded by a coded message posted on the Twitter account for Coldplay’s new project, Alien Radio FM.
The short video featured a series of flashing alien “letters” appearing on screen, which when decoded, spelled out the announcement.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin said of the collab: “We thought, it would be good to sing this with BTS because maybe we’re not supposed to be together.
“And it turned out to be one of the most fun things ever. I went to Korea to be with them, it’s been amazing.”
Super fans of both groups have been commenting on social media to express their excitement at the news.
One fan tweeted: “BTS finally get to be on a record with their mentors. Dreams do come true after all. The boys will be feeling good by now. Even getting in the same room with Coldplay. What an achievement.”
Rumours began to swirl that the two bands would collaborate after Coldplay’s Chris Martin visited South Korea in April.
In February, BTS covered Fix You for MTV Unplugged.
Coldplay called their performance “beautiful” in a tweet written in Korean.
Fans of BTS are excited for the single, and it will be a full-circle moment for the band, who have expressed they are big Coldplay fans, tweeting in 2014: “I love you Coldplay.”
