The course of true love never runs smoothly in soapland, but Coronation Street’s Fiz Stape is hoping her luck has changed.
The Weatherfield mum, played by Jennie McAlpine, has been wooed by new boyfriend Phill Whittaker (Jamie Kenna) since a chance meeting in July.
Fast forward five months, and the couple are making plans – but some soap viewers are cautious.
Fiz and Phill’s relationship took a big step this week when she agreed that it was okay for Phill to refer to himself as Hope and Ruby’s stepdad – before deciding to move in with him.
Her hopes for a fresh start left her ex Tyrone (Alan Halsall) shellshocked when Fiz asked him to sell No.9 so she had money to put into her new home.
Despite Ty’s infidelity with Alina (Ruxandra Porojnicu) being the trigger for his marriage breakdown with Fiz, ITV viewers can’t get on board with her new man.
After Tuesday night’s hour long trip to the cobbles, some think they have ‘worked out’ what the newcomer is up to.
“So Phil is going to run off with Fiz’s money,” one said on Twitter.
Another tweeted: “I don’t trust Phil as far as I can throw him.. something is wayyy off, and if Fiz gives him money she’ll regret it… this is #Corrie after all. No one gets to live happily ever after.”
“Phil’s obviously able to get a mortgage so why is Fizz making Tyrone sell his house. Phil will probably f**k off with the money anyway and everyone will end up homeless,” predicted a third.
Fiz has fallen for a wrong ‘un before, with Hope’s dad John Stape (Graeme Hawley) turning out to be a murderer.
Corrie also has a long history of men defrauding the women in their lives, going all the way back to devious Alan Bradley (Mark Eden) taking out a mortgage in the name of his partner Rita’s (Barbara Knox) dead husband.
Time will tell if Phill proves to be another bad apple, but fans think they know what the ultimate outcome is.
One fan predicted: “Its so obvious Fiz and Tyrone are going to get back together.”
