Coronation Street star Ruxandra Porojnicu has spoken about the sick verbal abuse she received over her current soap storyline.
The Romanian-born actress, 27, plays Alina Pop on the ITV soap and her character recently had an affair with fan favourite Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).
Tyrone has been with Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) for years, but he’s recently developed feelings for Alina.
Ruxandra has received some vile abuse from some Corrie viewers amid the plot.
She was nervous about doing the storyline at first as she told the Sun on Sunday: “Fiz and Tyrone are such an amazing and iconic couple, so when I found out what was planned I was surprised.
“And my first thought was, everyone is going to hate me.”
The soap star was surprised by the mixed reaction from viewers as some seemed to love Alina and Tyrone’s chemistry.
However, some fans hurled sick abuse at Ruxandra in the street.
She said: “But I’ve also had people saying, ‘Go back to your own country’, and calling me a homewrecker. I don’t take those comments seriously.”
Alina also had a positive reaction to her character and said she’s proud to be representing her country.
She continued: “I feel so privileged to have been given such a big storyline.
“I also feel proud to be representing my country. I’ve had a lot of people say how good it is Corrie is showing diversity with my character and it’s important for television to show that.”
Romanian actress Ruxandra was born in Bucharest on 5 July 1993.
Aside from television acting, the Corrie star has featured in modelling campaigns, music videos and adverts.
