Countryfile’s Julia Bradbury shares touching post ahead of emergency mastectomy

BBC presenter Julia Bradbury is about to undergo an emergency mastectomy so has posted an emotional “goodbye” to her left breast.

The Countryfile presenter announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer last month and that the news “changes your world in an instant”.

But the brave 51-year-old has shown enormous strength in the face of such adversity and stoically posted a picture of herself naked on Instagram, covering her left breast.

Julia said that she is “going for her last walk with those boobs” and is thankful for her boobs and body for all the “sustenance, joy and life it has given me.”

Julia said: “I’ve breastfed my children with you, I’ve jumped into the sea with you, I’ve walked thousands of miles with you.

“And you’ve given me (and some others) pleasure along the way. Now it’s time to make way for something new.”

The mum of three also urged women to get themselves checked and “take care of your bodies”.

In September Julia appeared in This Morning for one of her final TV appearances before the operation.

She told Phillip Schofield: “I feel alright actually, thank you.”

Revealing that she got the call confirming her diagnosis while filming for This Morning, she added: “You guys said ‘do you want to come and talk about it on the show? In the studio?’

“And it wasn’t that I didn’t want to come and see you, it was that I wanted to be in the woodlands and I wanted to finish these series of films for you because they’re really important to me and I wanted to be able to feel the love that I do for nature.”

Julia then confirmed her appearance on the show today was “the last live TV [she’s] doing before the operation”.

She added: “I will see you on the other side.”

Phil and his co-host Holly Willoughby gave Julia their best wishes, as viewers praised the “professional” presenter.

One wrote: “Big respect to Julia, being her usual professional, cheerful self, not an easy time ahead for her with her breast cancer diagnosis.”

Another commented: “Please give Julia Bradbury all my love, and tell her she’ll be fine, just 3 weeks post op, so know how she’s feeling.”
