Emma Corrin praises 'compassionate' Princess Diana as she bags Golden Globe

Emma Corrin became a household name after taking on the role of Diana, Princess of Wales during the latest instalment of The Crown and it appears the actress holds Diana close to her.

During the Golden Globes awards on Sunday, the 25-year-old actress took home the award for Best Actress in a Drama TV Series and was left stunned when her name was called out.

Emma accepted her award via video link from London due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic causing international travel to be restricted.

The star who played the role of the then, Lady Diana Spencer in the 1980s was just one of three names from The Crown who took home a gong during the show.

As she shared her thanks, Emma gushed: “Most of all, thank you so much to Diana, you have taught me compassion and empathy beyond any measure that I could ever imagine.

“On behalf of everyone who remembers you so fondly and passionately in our hearts, thank you.”

The actress from Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, went on to thank co-star Josh O’Connor who played the role of Prince Charles during his earlier years.

“Thank you to my Prince Charming, Josh, I couldn’t have done this without you, thank you for making every single day by my side a complete joy,” she exclaimed as she beamed from ear-to-ear.

Emma wasn’t the only member of The Crown family to bag an award with Josh O’Connor taking home Best Actor in a TV Drama Series.

Gillian Anderson was also recognised for taking on the role of England’s first female Prime Minister, Baroness Margaret Thatcher in season four of The Crown, documenting her turbulent relationship with Her Majesty The Queen.

Elsewhere, Helena Bonham-Carter went head to head with Gillian for the Best supporting actress in a TV series – limited series or TV movie award for her depiction of the late Princess Margaret.

During season four, Princess Margaret was seen pleading with her sister to call off the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana after she was prevented from marrying her first love.

Margaret begs: “Charles loves someone else. How many times can this family make the same mistake?

“Forbidding marriages that should be allowed, forcing others that shouldn’t… We can stop them now before they tie the knot… We have to stop them now.”

However, as The Crown is not factually accurate, it is not known whether the late Princess had such a say in the engagement of Charles and Diana.
