Hilary Duff is set to star as the lead role of the How I Met Your Mother spin-off, titled How I Met Your Father.
The Lizzie Maguire actress will star as a character called Sophie telling her son the story of how she met his father.
How I Met Your Father will be written and executively produced by This Is Us creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, and Hilary will also serve as producer.
Hulu has already given the project a straight-to-series order for a 10 episode run.
According to Hulu, the show, “catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options”.

A previous attempt for a sequel to the beloved show was attempted in 2018 but did not lead to a series.
In a joint statement, Isaac and Elizabeth said: “We are beyond excited to be bringing How I Met Your Father to Hulu.
“The iconic original series revolutionized the half-hour comedy, and we are so honoured to be carrying the torch forward for the next generation – and with Hilary Duff no less.”
They added: “We can’t wait for audiences to meet Sophie and her crew, and watch them come into their own and find love in modern-day New York City.”
Hilary said in a statement to Deadline: “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie… Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius.”
She went on: “Just fangirling over here… I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½’s in there.”
Later she celebrated landing the new role with some cupcakes and took to her Instagram to gush to her 34.2 million followers.
She said: “Where’s your suit? Suit up! I’m excited about my job if you can’t tell, you guys.”
