Inside Corrie stars Mark Eden and Sue Nicholls' marriage after 1993 wedding

Soap star Mark Eden, who has died aged 92 after battling Alzheimer’s, was married to his Coronation Street co-star Sue Nicholls for almost three decades.

Mark played the villainous Alan Bradley on the cobbles, while his wife Sue plays Audrey Roberts on the iconic ITV soap.

The actor, who had been living with Alzheimer’s disease for a long time, died in the early hours of January 1st 2021, The Sun reported.

He reportedly was admitted to hospital in November after his long battle with the illness.

Sue has spoken about her marriage to Mark and how supportive he was of her role on the soap.

Back in 2015, Sue’s character Audrey pursued a new romance with widower Ken – played by Bill Roache.

Sue revealed that Mark was rooting for her as she embarked on the storyline.

She told the Daily Mirror at the time: “Mark thinks it’s good, he can see the potential.

“He also loves Bill – we’re friendly with him on a social level, so that’s nice. It pleases me that Mark thinks it’s right.”

Her hubby also gave Sue advice about kissing on-screen.

She continued to the publication: “He’s actually terribly helpful when it comes to those kinds of scenes. Mark’s probably kissed more women on screen than he’s had hot dinners.

“Very good he is at it too – although sadly I’ve never had a chance to kiss him on screen, only at home.

“In fact, he gives me so much advice at times I have to tell him to shut up.”

Mark first joined Coronation Street in 1978, but not as the evil character he became most famous for.

His first ever role on the programme was actually as a lorry driver named Wally Randle.

Mark played the role for six months before making his departure and then returned to the soap in 1986 as Alan Bradley.

The star then remained on the soap until 1991 when the character died underneath a Blackpool tram.

His wife Sue made her first appearance as Audrey on the cobbles on 16th April 1979.

In terms of his relationship history, Mark was first married to Joan Long.

They were together from 1953 until 1959 and had a son, David, together.

Mark’s second wife was Diana Smith. They tied the knot in 1973 and the actor’s first wife Joan attended the wedding ceremony as maid of honour.
