Inside Dwayne Johnson's bitter Vin Diesel feud after 'chicken s***' slurs

When Fast & Furious 9 is released this summer, Dwayne Johnson won’t be in it.

Granted, this could be partly due to the Hollywood megastar’s busy schedule and involvement in the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off.

But, according to Screen Rant, it may also have something to do with his beef with co-star Vin Diesel.

It’s easy to imagine a feud between the pair – after all it’s what played out on screen in the Fast & Furious movies – but life, it seems, also imitated art as they clashed just as hard in the real world.

The two action heroes are loved by fans the world over for their high-octane, explosive films, yet it’s now well known they have the ability to really rub each other the wrong way.

They first worked together in 2011 on the fifth instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise, Fast 5, which longtime star Diesel, now 53, was also co-producing.

This meant that Johnson, also known as his old WWE name The Rock, was technically acting alongside his boss, which must have been a real minefield.

However it wasn’t until five years and three films later that relations between the men took a turn for the worse.

During the filming of the eighth movie in the series, Johnson, now 48, aimed a dig at his co-stars.

He wrote on social media: “This is my final week of shooting #FastAndFurious8. There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one.

“An incredible hard working crew. UNIVERSAL has been great partners as well. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love ’em.

“My male co-stars however are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken s**t to do anything about it anyway.

“Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling – you’re right.”

Fans were shocked by his outburst. Johnson is regarded as one of the most genuine and polite celebrities in Hollywood, and the Fast & Furious cast usually crow about being “a family”, echoing the dynamic of the gang of car thieves and boy racers they play on screen.

The next day sources told Etonline that the tensions arose from Vin being late to set, angering Johnson.

They said: “There were several times Vin was late to set and it really started p**sing Dwayne and other cast and crew off.

“Dwayne was always on time for shooting. It was Vin who would often show up when he felt like showing up. Dwayne is the complete opposite.

“At the end of production Dwayne was really over Vin’s bulls**t. As far as I know, they haven’t spoken since they left set.”

The unnamed source’s information seemed to be confirmed by Johnson, who shared another Instagram about his experiences on set, this time hinting time management was involved.

He posted: “You guys reading this know how much I believe in the idea of a TEAM EFFORT.

“That means respecting every person, their time and their value when they step on to my set or partner with our production company.

“And like with any team — that’s a family — there’s gonna be conflict.

“Family is gonna have differences of opinion and fundamental core beliefs,” he added. “To me, conflict can be a good thing, when it’s followed by great resolution. I was raised on healthy conflict and welcome it. And like any family, we get better from it.”

Vin was less forthcoming about the feud, despite teasing fans that he would be telling them “everything” but then never mentioning about the fall out or if it had been resolved.

The following year, the ‘Fast family’ were back together to promote the film.

On the red carpet, Vin finally spoke up about the feud, telling one reporter it was just “two alphas” locking horns.

He said: “I don’t think the world really realizes how close we are, in a weird way.

“I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don’t think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise.

“In my house, he’s Uncle Dwayne. It’s not always easy being an alpha. And it’s two alphas. Being an alpha is sometimes a pain in the (butt).”

Fast & Furious 9 is due for release this June. In the film, Vin’s character Dom Toretto will be seen flying a car in to space.
